Question Is this installed right?

It seemed like it was going to be a pretty straight forward install but it seems that the front front rotary accent is not installed right. I have tried multiple times but it looks like this is the best im going to get it. Am I doing something wrong? At the top its pushing outward on the bumper a little bit. Is this normal? I ordered the accent from rx8strakes.com. I am not blaming rx8strakes im just letting you guys know which one I installed because the oem one I took off looked a little different. I have the apearance package installed BTW, my sig was made from an old picture.

Heres a pic

thanks in advance. You guys always seem to help me out

Looks like you may need to wedge it up at the top first (behind the bumper) then get a ballping hammer to tap the lower portion into place.

????

Maybe the bumper is a fraction of a cm dropped?

Ill give that a shot. Ill wrap it with something if I hit it though.

The bumper should be fine, the grooves on the accent are level with the bumper. It just seems that the accent isnt all the way on so it pushes outward on the bumper by maybe a quarter of an inch. I just tried so hard and will not go any further.

thanks for the advice. more is welcome

What the hell is a ballping hammer? It's a Ball-Peen hammer.

Anyway enough of the education,, when i installed mine I had to put the top in first and lift it so it went in. Mine kinda looks like that too.

thanks for the info easy.

It actually looks fine and I dont think its really doing any harm to the bumper I was just curious if it was supposed to be sitting like that. I went by a dealer with a factory installed one and it looks kinda like that as well. even the gap on the bottom was present.

Or you could just use a small rubber mallet to prevent scratching.

Ballping.......ball-peen.........whatever.

My bad......I thought a ballping.........ballpeen.......whatever.......ham mer was the rubber tipped one.

The accent is made of aluminum or some sort of metal, and a few taps from a rubber Ballping.......ball-peen.........whatever........hammer shouldn't do any harm.

We aren't talking about whacking the hell out of it..

Just make sure the glue strip makes good contact.

Even if there is good contact, my concern would be that if the bumper is resting on the emblem if you hit a pothole or good bump that jars the bumper, or if your lower lip hits a curb, it could possibly pop the emblem off.

Both ends of a Ball Peen hammer are metal and are used in the metal work.

Oh and for the record. My 'Rotary13B1' rotary accent sits in deeper and eclipses the stock rotary symbol structure. No pushing out or unnatural looking fitment.

I have the factory accent, and it looks to me like yours is sticking out way too much, especially up top. You shouldn't be able to see the part that the accent pushes against, when viewed fromt he side. In fact, the factory accent has a plastic screw that goes through the accent in the back, behind the part the accent is pushed against.

My guess is maybe your sticky tape is too thick, and/or it caught before you were able to push it back far enough?

That picture is showing the accent with no tape on it just to show how far I can get it on. I was thinking the same thing but just cannot get it on any further. The factory accent for some reason is a little deaper but not by much. Im thinking of just taking it off and selling it if I cant get it right. Was it hard to put on for anyone else? It looked like it would just slide right on but I guess not.

thanks for the help so far everyone

It's hard to tell from just looking at it... if you have it down as far as it will go, then my only guess is that it is not shaped properly. Maybe contact rx8strakes about the issue?

I tried and tried and tried. and I cant get it any better than that. Oh well I guess ill just keep it like that. Doesnt seem to be doing any harm anyways and doesnt seem to be going anywhere. I actually moved it out while it was on to see if the plastic was making contact with metal and it was. I still have the stock one and its deaper than the one you get from rx8strakes. I guess its supposed to look like that. Thanks for the help guys. For those of you that have the aero package and have the accent from rx8strakes if you could sent me side close ups of yours I would appreciate that.

thanks

That fact actually did cross my mind. It just seems that it would just slide right over the plastic. I still may contact them to see if they have had any situations like this.

I do not have any accents, and I have only inspected the locations where they are placed once, the rotary or V shaped spots where the front and rear emblems are attached.........if I'm not mistaken is there a difference in width of the spot where the emblems are placed?

What I'm getting at is if maybe you received a REAR emblem, and are trying to place it on the front?

yes, the rear is smaller and shaped like a triangle. The front is much larger and shaped like a V. Is there maybe a difference between the apearance package accent and the non apearance package accent?
