General rule of thumb is if the hood is less than 1k, it's more than likely cf over fiberglass. Even if it's 1k or over, there's still a good chance it has some fiberglass in it. A piece that big made only of quality carbon fiber is expensive.

Varis is all cf i believe. Very high quality legit hood. They also have a carbon/kevlar hood as well.

I have a seibon and it's awsome, carbon over fiberglass but you can't tell till you open the hood. Carbon creations had issues back in the day but I hear there getting better on quality control now. Vis and seining would be my recommendation though price is right and quality A+

Never fear, Jedi is here.

The majority of manufacturers (Seibon, VIS, etc) have fiberglass hoods that are overlayed with CF.
If you choose to buy the higher end products such as Varis, know that not all of their hoods are full Carbon either so choose wisely.

Currently Varis offers 3 different styles of their carbon hoods
1. Carbon Kevlar - available in blue, yellow, or red
2. Carbon Cooling Bonnet - Fiberglass with CF overlay. (this is about $1,600 before shipping)
3. Full Carbon Bonnet - All CF. This is about $3,000 by the time it's shipped state-side

As for weight: it is very difficult to find a hood that is lighter then our OEM as we're fortunate enough to have an Aluminum hood.
I did however weigh my Varis before installing it and the weight was only about .5 lbs off from the OEM which was the lightest I've seen for a similarly designed model.

hope that helps.

Most companies will list if the hood is carbon over frp. Seibon, for instance, lists two different versions of their 'TS style' - one listed as 'dry carbon' and significantly more expensive ( $2,400 up from the normal $800).
