HID Headlights

Alright, I searched to no avail. I saw a few DIY things stating how to replace them. But also noticed the car came with HID or regular Haleogen. Not sure what my car has. I got the car used and never looked at it. I want HID and don't want to buy an HID kit if I don't need to.

I want to know if all I have to do is replace a bulb or something or if I have to get the actual kit. And if I have to get the kit, could someone tell me what bulb style I would need and what not. I plan on getting bulbs around the 8000k range but not sure what model number I would need. Here is a pic of the headlight from the outside cause I'm not taking it apart right now. Its late, so the pic might be hard to see.

What model is you car? Is it a sport? An easy way to tell is if you don't have a sunroof? The touring and grand touring have sunroofs and come standard with HID's, the sport does not. Based on the picture, it looks like you have HID's. HID's have a bluish color when switched on. Also, they have a cutoff beam. Hope this helps.

nope no sunroof. Don't know much about my car, i've had it just over 3 days.

Heres a bad pic of it. I've got like no room to take pics and its 3:30 am. But the headlights in those pics were off. And what do you mean by cut off? If your talking about how the headlights look like the just stop and go even across the top like if the car was pointed at a wall and its a straight line, yes they do.

Not really too knowledgable on headlights. Just looking for some help. Thanks for the response though.

Its a 2004 RX8. Thats pretty much all I know about it. Dealer didn't tell me much and I havn't done much research on the RX8 but i'm getting more and more addicted with it the more I drive it.

So if it has stock HID's what would I need to replace to get it up to the 8000k range, or even the real nice blue lights?

Aim the headlights at a wall and see if they make sort of a curve across the top and I think you see some sort of a cut off. Check out this thread and you can see what I am talking about. The color should kind of be like his, but a little lighter since he changed the lenses. https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-exterior-appearance-body-kits-27/rx-8-projector-lens-swap-146372/

Yeah, they're like that, i've noticed when I was driving the other night. So that means I already have HID? They just don't seem so bright to me.

So then if I already have HID's what would I need to swap out to get the 8000k or the nice blue lights? Just the bulbs? And if so can you please tell me the model number? I've noticed it was like H7 or H9 but i'm not sure. I looked in the manual and such and didn't see it. Though on websites the bulbs were either H7 or H9 and i don't know what to go with because i'm not too familiar with this.

Yes, all you have to replace is the bulbs. These are the style bulbs you want: Headlights-Xenon Low Beam-(2) D2S 35W. D2S is for HID and the H7 or H9's are for halogen. Do the lights make some kind of noise that sounds like sorta like a beam when they are switched on? This will also verify if you have HID's or not. Post some pics from far away with them on so I can tell you for sure if you have HID's or not. To get the cool blue look, I will have to find out what company makes the bulbs that one of our members has. His look really nice. His name is volcomx31 and I will pm him to find out. Then I will let you know.

Thanks for the help, i'll get a pic up in a few minutes I have to go take the picture. And i havn't noticed any noise when turning them on. Then again, i'm also deaf in my right ear from a ruptured ear drum.

heres the pics of them on. Granted i didn't move the car cause I don't wanna deal with flooding issues cause i'm not gonna baby sit it at 4 AM. So theres a fence or two between me and the car. I also listened for any noise when turning them on and didn't hear anything.

You have Halogens. What you will have to do is order a HID conversion kit because Xenon is a different gas. That's why you can't just swap out bulbs. Also, it's fine that you didn't turn the car on to take pics of the lights since it wouldn't affect them anyway. Search the forum for info about conversion kits. There are member's on here that have done it.

one more quick question, i'm looking at a few kits and don't know much about them. What ones would I have to buy? they are asking what bulb type. Would that be the R7 then? because theres no option for R9 or D2S

i'm looking on here:
http://www.therpmstore.com/product_i...products_id=38

here http://www.jrtlighting.com/main.htm

and here: http://www.matrixracing.com/c-868-xetronic.aspx

and i'm utterly confused. This is me knowing nothing about headlights.

I'm pretty sure it is the D2S. Check the bulb code list thread in the exterior/appearance forum. It will say.

Do you only want 8000k for color? I would recommend 6000k because at 8000k, you will loose quite a lot of usable light. It will be noticeable when driving.

I was looking at the forums until around 5 am. Doing some research and no, i'll probably go with 6000k instead. I do alot of night driving so i'll need the light. So I figure 6000k would be better for my needs. Maybe a little lower in color.

Now I was looking for DIY Headlight HID conversion kits and the DIY instructions on the forums and came up empty handed 99% of the stuff i saw was how to change the bulb. Could someone please make a DIY instructions for HID conversion kits? I'm more under the hood than in the headlights and i'm Headlamp retarted. My last car had sealed beam headlights and they were easy to replace expecially with the popup headlight. THis car looks a bit more tricky.

OK, just to clear up a couple of things: If you have no foglights (which it appears you don't) then you have halogen headlights, NOT HID. The Sport model (and up) from the first couple of years and Performance package from the most recent years adds both fogs and HID headlights.

If you are going to buy an HID kit for your halogen headlights, you'll need to purchase the H7 kit. I don't have a DIY for installing the kit, but the RPM Store kit seems very easy to install, thinking about getting one of their kits for my fogs.

Again thanks again for the help guys. I'm probably going to be ordering Factory Fogs soon from Mazdatrix. And was hoping someone would have a DIY or know where to find one. Sorry if i sound noobish, but I was never really into headlights as much as I was into stereos.

Will do, i'll get try and get a video of at least one side when I do them. I'll just take the tire off and the fender out to make it a bit better and more clear.
