omicron, yea, i dunno who i was responding to in that last post..... but anyway, here is the deal. It was a pain in the *** to install these. Here's why...

1) They are rebased D2S bulbs fitted with a H11 socket.
2) The H11 HID bulbs are too long to fit into the stock housing. I had to strech the reflector inside the housing which means the whole fog light had to come off the car.
3) Lack of mounting options for the ballast forced me to drill holes in it and attach it to the oil cooler bracket.
4) Trying to aim these was very hard also. Trying to make them not intrusive to other drivers forced me to aim them pretty low.

The whole install took about 3 hours, mainly beaucse I took my time and did a very professional job. If you look at the pictures in my second post you can see where I mounted the ballast. ( its the silver box) Lastly, they do make a rebased H9 bulb.

I have a 9006 HID kit left over from our Miata, you think I can install those into the 8 fogs? Love the way yours looks.

Very nice!! Looks really great. You said you had to stretch the lens...how exactly did you do that without damaging it? Also, did you take enough pictures to put together a step by step DIY thread??? This would make an excellent DIY thread! Please put one together for us.... :D

You'll be able to use the ballasts from your Miata, but you'll have to buy new bulbs. (about 100 bucks on ebay)

Dayum. I know that you have your fogs aimed down, but it almost appears that the HID fogs are brighter than the HID projectors? Or does it just appear that way in the pics?

Omicron, that might be a problem. The HID lighting system takes about 10 seconds to reach its highest luminousness. That means you woun't be abe to flash your high beams at anyone. One of the main proplems with gas discharge lighting is the warm up time, remember how long it took for the street lights to start making light after they were turned on. (about 5-10 minutes) Thats were the infamous xenon comes in to play; xenon makes very little usable light, but it warms up very fast (about 5 seconds). Thats why when you first turn on your HIDs they appear blue, that is the color of the xenon. As they other gases warm up, mainly sodium, they over power the xenon. This explains why you have very little light when you first turn on HIDs. Do you see how this could be a problem?

Ug. Damn. Hadn't thought about that.

Oh well... I rarely if ever flash my high beams at people, and would rather have LOTSA light when I'm on the back roads. Hmmm... wonder if I could adapt this kit to install it in my fogs instead? Anyone know how close the 9005 and the H11 bases are?
