Are you the 1st owner? Try to post some pics of the headlights at night. Not exactly sure what you have.

What options do you have on your car? If your car came with the fog lights off the assembly line, then your HID. If you have the halogen's, you can replace them with an HID converision kit with H7 bulbs, if it came with the factory HID's you need to buy the D2S type of bulb for replacement.

If you mean some mechanism that adjust the level of the lights, then you have HID.

didnt know that hmm..

I just know that all manual rx8's 2009-2011 came with Xenons EXCEPT the R3's which are Halogen(seems pretty stupid to me)

not that any of this helps you though.

take a picture of youre headlight and post it up.

EDIT: im a dumbass the R3's did come with xenons... the sports did not. I looked at my 2011 brochure wrong.

Don't know who told you R3's don't have HID's but that's absolutely incorrect.

turn your head lamps on and take a picture from the front, that's the easiest way to tell. if they're yellow, it's halogen, if it's white with a hint of blue then it's HID.

you guys do understand that it could still be HID if it has a yellow tint right? There are different color temperatures, and if he isn't a first owner you never know what the previous owner did.

Those pics look like HID to me... and if there is a leveling mechanism ("motor" as you put it), then they most certainly are HID.
I don't see why the previous owner would replace HID with halogen (unless for cost saving after an accident that damaged both headlights).

My suggestion would be to just go by a Mazda dealership lol I am about to get my rx8 from Socal and I will be taking it over there to ask a few questions, this being one of them.

check your drivers side rear lower control arm. if you find this creme colored box with the arm that connects them together, you have HID's. its the rear headlight level sensor for OEM HID headlights.

I have the Touring Package on my 04... If I want a much more blue color can I just replace the bulbs to the HID's with 10k-12k bulbs? And if so what is the bulb size?

Well, 10k is gonna make it a lot less bright... If you still want your brightness and some blue, go 8k.

I appreciate the tip. I've ordered some 10k's to see if I truly like them and if not I'll be going down to 8k..

be aware that some states require that the front facing lights, if not OEM, be white. 10K headlights are not legal in some states and will not pass inspection.
