Or do we have to drill a hole for the support rod?

Thanks,
I have done it 2 ways. First time I used the stock tow hook holes and had brackets made. On the left side I used the tow hook with a washer wielded on to secure the bracket.

Now I am using a custom crash bar with brackets wielded on and a quick disconnect fitting.

You can also wield brackets to the stock crash bar. If anyone wants the brackets, hardware and tow hook, just let me know and I can have my fabricator make you some. Shouldnt be too much.

How much did you pay for the custom crash bar?
I'm very interested.

For the material and labor your looking at around $500. I actualy spent $500 just in labor plus I bought all the hooks and brackets myself. My fabricator said he can buid it a second time for $400 labor. So I can cource the required tubing, brackets, tow hook if desired and anything else you want/need like the quick disconnect pens, heim joints and threaded tubing. Also to save on shipping cost, I might be able to find a stock crash bumper localy to modify and ship you instead having you ship me yours.

PM me if you want to proceed.

FYI. I used 1.5" .063" chromoly tubing. Using something a little thicker might be a better idea. This setup weighed in at 11 LBS and yielded me about 6.5lbs in weight savings over my prevous set up of tow hooks and brackets. Stock crash bar weighs 15.6lbs

Ah, ic.
I'm ask local fabricator and see how much he'll charge for similar setup.
How long does it take to get it done? From getting all the items to finish product?
I might travel to SanFran at the end of this year, maybe get it done while I'm up there.

Thanks!

1 day if he is available and I have all the parts but he is never available so its best to plan on a week. He spent a lot more time on mine trying to figure out the best way to do everthing. A local fabricator is probably going to look at it and be confused about how to do it.

Being from socal, the shipping wont be too bad.

I'm going to a local rotary shop, they do different like of mod and fabrication.
The owner has a 20B Rx-2, i think, and a 13B miata.
I'll ask them first and go from there.

Many thanks!

I would suggest get an aftermarket splitter and go from there. It's more of how you mount it.

Yah, the whole point of the thread is that there is no aftermarket splitter available for the rx8. I can have one made for you with ABS or Alumalite. I have both a stock bumper and a masdaspeed bumper templete. If you have the apperance kit I think it just sits a little lower and out a litte farther. PM me if interested.

Well the problem is I'm not looking to spend a lot of money...that's why a splitter is so appealing to me...instead of buying an aftermarket bumper I could put on a splitter to give it that more aggressive look...which is all I'm going for...aesthetics...
