Question front splash gaurds

I ordered my front splash guards a couple days ago from my local dealer and they told me they are not compatible with the aero kit. I then asked him "there for the front right? for behind the front wheels?" and he said yeah and I told him then they should fit. I told him I know the rear ones probably wont fit with the aero kit but the front should be no problem. he told me I can order them but they don't take returns and I would be risking that. I ordered them anyways

Anyone know why he might have mentioned that they wont fit on the front? am I missing something or is he on some new medication?

Because they don't know what the hell they're talking about, and are just reading what they see on their order sheets. That's my guess.

Worse comes to worse you could sell them here for a slight loss.

Cant think of any reason front splash guards wouldn't fit.... Theres nothing there unless you have mazdaspeed side skirts.

if you just have the aero flares you should be fine. that guy has no idea what he is talking about apparently.

they are the easiest part of the aero kit to install yourself too.

I'm pretty sure I've seen photos here of quite a few 8s w/side aeros and front splash guards. It really sounds like they're just reading what they see on order sheets.

All the Mazda sites say 'not compatible with aero kit' - but I've never seen anything more specific. Basically, it doesn't specify that rear splash is not compatible w/rear aero and/or front splash w/side aero. It just uses the blanket statement that splash guards are 'not compatible with aero kit' - so the dealer is just passing that info on to you.

As for the dealership, it's NBD, especially since they probably never install anything but the aero packages - if they even do that. So they just don't know what will or won't fit together, and just want to cover their *** so you can't bitch them out over a part that doesn't fit.

Never fear, Jedi is here!!!

The front splash guards are NOT compatible with the aero kit BUT it's easily fixed.
The reason they are "not compatible" is because there is a rubber strip underneath the car that simply need to be trimmed. I had this issue 3 years back and 30 seconds with a razor blade remedied the situation.

Razor blade? I would have thought you'd use a light saber, Jedi.

yeah your right. he said he was reading off of an order sheet but even so. you work at a mazda dealership selling and repairing rx8's. you would think they would know that they should still fit.

I installed the rear and side flares last weekend and they turned out great. should have the whole kit installed by this sunday.

Do you have to drill for the front splash gaurds? or do they use the existing holes on the fender liner and use 3m tape on the body.

exactly! first you remove that rubber rock guard and small mud flap thingy. you use one of the black plastic rivets on the bottom. then put a metal threaded bracket in a fender hole. put it on and put a screw through that bracket and then take the tape backing off and stick it on. really easy. the hardest part is trying to get the old black plastic rivets off since they are a pain to get off sometimes.

thanks guys! seems pretty straight forward.

btw getting back to the side aero's. I did not install the foam washers with the 1 push screw on the bottom and the 1 screw that you install on the fender liner. do you really need those? or should I throw them on.

i think those might have something to do with protecting the paint. not really very necessary. i've also noticed people having problems with gaps in the front portion of the aero flares. i have noticed them as well. i found that if you space it(the screw) away from the fender it tends to lessen the gap.

Just because a dealership sells/services Rx8's does NOT mean they know squat about them
