Hi everyone.... Newbie first time post.

I've got a 2004 GT which I bought new in early 05. About 6 months after I bought it the right taillight started fogging up. I took it into the dealer and they pointed out a small crack, which they said I made.
More recently the left taillight started fogging up like crazy. I took it in again, and basically they said there's nothing broken and nothing they can do.

Has anyone else had issues with foggy tail lights? What have you done about it? I was thinking about putting something in there that would absorb the moisture, maybe desilicate gel, but not 100% sure.

Hope someone has some insight into this one.

search and you will find....your dealer is not telling the truth...i have had 3 tails replaced already all under warantee

Same here. Driver's side tailight replaced under warranty at 3k miles on a new '05 Shinka due to condensation infiltration.

 

just gotten mine changed last week. find a new dealer.

I have the same problem on my 03 Which i bought second hand and don't have a warranty. So if anyone has any ideas on how to fix it i would appreciate it. I can't see any cracks and it just does it in very cold weather or extremely hot and wet. There is no obvious cracks in it either

 

there is a fix it in the us where they use new gaskets so i assume if you dry it and seal the edges better you should be fine.....or maybe order the part from the us

 

yup take it back to the dealer or take it to the new. i got mine tailright fixed b4 forgot which one.

Warranty should transfer to the new owner if you're still under the 48 month/50,000 mile term.

 

How come some dealers are such a**holes about warranty work that they get reimbursed for by MNAO? There can't be any Mazda service advisor in the USA who is unaware of the taillight problem. I just don't understand it!

multiple replies just consist of a lot of copying and pasting. easiest way i've found is to just open a new window with the new reply in it. then use the old window to quote people.

if you don't care if it says who you are quoting you can type [.quote] at the beginning of the quoted stuff and [./quote] at the end (leave out the periods -- i had to put them or it would have just quoted my words!)

 

mazda dealers suck on warantee cuz they dont get paid as much on it as they would for full repair....they have 2 different fee's and time tables on labor

 

Thanks chrism, i'll go down the path of replacing the gasket and see if that works. I notice when you open the boot ( i mean trunk lol) when its been raining water runs behind the taillights. Wonder if that has something to do with it?

If there are no visible cracks inthe tailight, the dealer should replace it under warranty.

If it is cracked and looks like you backed into something or someone rand into you (say while parking) its up to the dealer to decide because technically that wouldn't be covered.

 

My wife's RX-8 is slated for its latest exorcism at a Mazda dealership. Among other things, her passenger side taillight is filled with moisture and at least an inch of water.

 

Buy a new one on Ebay. They are cheap on EBay ($30 - $40) cause a brand new one from Mazda is $200+

Also check the for sale thread. I believe there is someone on there selling a driver's side for $50 shipped.

 

I got my both my tail lights replaced when I complained about a small spider that was stuck inside. They gave me no hassle at all and even asked me if I have any other prob with the car. I said I heard about the new flash can you guys do that, and sure enough they were more than happy to.

 

I read in another thread that the new tail lights have a micro hole drilled in the clear lens to help prevent fog and mist.

could someone with a 05 up car or replacement lights confirm?

 

I just replaced my tailights due to moisture (on my own wallet, no warranty). After I took the old ones out, I tipped it upside down and a lot of water came pouring out. So maybe if you take it off of your car, pour the water out, and use weather stripping to create a better seal, I think that would solve the problem.
