searching for "R type hid" brings up a lot of civics...

 

so dont search for that. just find your choices and make sure you choose the right one, D1R vs D1S for example

 

Sorry to revive and old thread, but I am looking to add an HID kit to my fogs so I can get greater output on backroads at night so I can see farther in the distance than my OEM xenon's and high-beams currently produce. Would adding an HID kit to the fogs allow me to see farther and not interfere with the HID projector beam in the headlights? I'm basically trying to convert my fogs to driving lights, but keep the OEM housings, if that's possible and not too expensive?

With what paulmasoner said regarding D1R HID kits, how would I go about fitting these into the H11 housing of the foglight? Are there H11 to D1R adapters? Will a D2R kit work in the fogs on the Rx8?

Also, regarding actual usage during heavy fog, which I rarely see, but encounter every now and then, should I be looking at 3k mainly, or would 4300 or 6k be fine?

HIDs in the fogs are brighter than OEM but, not as bright as the projector headlights because the reflective housing in the fogs scatter the beam
i use 6K H11s to match the 6K high beams have

 

What about the "R" type HID kits? Would you say I should be looking more for a driving light instead?

just sharing what I do know
the HID fogs wont shine as far as the low beams either because they don't have projectors to direct the light
they are brighter than OEM fogs though and light up the road pretty good close to the car

When you click this link, scroll down a little bit and you will find an HID foglight kit with projector lenses and urrthang.

The beam from the foglight will mix with the beam from the headlight; you'll notice this especially if you are running two different color temperatures, but it shouldn't hinder your nighttime sight

 

Thanks. I totally forgot about these as I inquired about them a few years ago, but at the time was set on something else. Actually, just checked a message I sent him back them... he wants $400 for that setup, so forget that because I HIGHLY DOUBT they're worth half that.

Still looking for a much cheaper and better solution. These are just fog lights anyways, so I'm not looking for something state of that art, just something to get by for a relatively good price that'll last. If it were headlights, that's another story.
