I am hoping to make this happen within 10 - 14 days. Tonight, I casted the first side strake which is in conjunction with the front strakes. I am processing the pics right now and will be posting it in a few minutes.

So, Since I am waiting for mold supplies to continue on with the side strakes that I have started, I got busy and went back to designing the oile cooler screens that will accompany the fog light strakes if that option is desired. I came up with a plan that I think will work so I have to fabricate this before I cast it. The frame is what will be cast, the mesh that I mocked up will be a seperate material that will be attached either by rivets and washers or by actually inserting this material in the mold before it hardens. The top side will attach via the stansions that are already present for attaching a cover for the single oil cooler models of the RX-8. The bottom will attach via the L shaped pieces that will be attached to the frame. This in turn will be attached via double sided foam tape or another undecided method as of yet. The side closest to the fog light will fit around the fog light and be visible though it will be black in color so as not to be redily seen. The mock up drawing will show what this shape will be like, however, it will slightly change to reflect the mounting to the front of the nose. This mock up screening can be either bright aluminum, black aluminium or black plastic. The holes will be fairly large to let enough air through but small enough to keep rocks and large insects from hitting the coolers.

The screens are a great idea - but using double-sided foam is probably not strong enough. Not sure what other method would be best, but it needs to be sturdy so that a piece of rock wouldn't tear it off the bumper.
This, by the way, is true for the oil cooler strakes as well.
Do you think you'd have to remove the bumper to mount these screens? Or even for mounting the strakes, will that be necessary? I hope not... although I'm just about to find some time to remove my bumper to install the Racing Beat oil cooler screens...

Yeah, the bumper would have to be removed to put these in, there is just no other way.
The double sided tape is just to hold the bottom edge. The top will be held in with screws that will be connected to the bumper cover it's self. There is a third stansion that can also be used. I am going to purchase a cover for a stock auto RX-8, they only have one oil cooler and the other side has a cover. I have seen it in a diagram but it isn't clear enough to see what it really looks like. Here is the diagram. They call it a fog light cover though it is really just the missing oil cooler cover. Also, here is another pic of places to attach to. This would involve some modification to the screen above that I am thinking about.
The double sided tape would only offer a bit more stability to this design. It would not be the main support. As far as a rock goes, what size rock are you worried about, a baseball size? I feel so long as you are not going off roading, this would not be a problem. After all, if you have just about any appearance package parts these use the same tape in addition to screws, fasteners or bolts. Of course any rock that would be large enough to dislodge something like these would do major damage to any part of the car it would hit.
As far as the strakes, they will not hold on by tape alone and will attach with other means that will not require the removal of the cover. See phoito bellow. They will have two aluminum pins that will be inserted in two holes that will have to be drilled in the side of the fog light covers. These two holes will have the tape that will seal the holes and adhere these to the covers. The other side will rest with tape on the edge of the front. I couuld design these to use screws and you would have to take apart the nose to install these but that would prevent a lot of those who do not have the ability to do this from doing so in the case that they just want the strakes alone. I kept my prototypes on for two weeks until I remeoved them and the tape alone held through car washes and any thing else I could throw out there and I had to pull hard to get them off. That tape has great adhesion qualities. They use it in many cases to put trim on cars in teh auto indutry. These plastic strakes have little weight and what they do have gravity pulls them tighter to the body parts.

Maniac Rocks..... Great job. I bought his brake light mod, and I loved it. And it was my pleasure to do business with him. Count me in again for this mod, and in any other mods you come up with in the future....... Thank you

As I posted in the other thread on strakes...I will be making molds for the first front fog light accent strakes this weekend. These will be available soon. My next project after getting this going will be the oil cooler grilles. These will also be available as an integrated package deal with the front accent strakes if desired. The grille will, unfortunately, require the removal of the front of the car. However, it will utilize existing mounting methods and I am enclosing a mock up pic below.

your oil coolers have fragile fins that help dissipate heat and channel air. when rocks hit them, they bend (or if a big enough rock hit it, it may cause major damage). when they bend they look ugly and don't work as well. the cooler guards keep rocks/stuff from hitting the oil coolers.
