Rotaries eat exhaust systems.

Anything less than full stainless won't last two years.

Magnaflow is legendary in the V8 community, don't mean squat when you're talking about the flamethrower that is a 13B.......

The rotary exhaust also is very loud, and not in a good way - a high flow exhaust on a V8 will sound powerful and deep - the same setup on an RX-8 will sound like a pissed-off weedwhacker. Our systems need to be designed for the crackly raspy blast they are dealing with.

But don't let me talk you out of it - you will soon realise why nobody here brags about their MF setup - in two years you will be buying another system, then you can do it 'right'.

magnaflow ftl!

look at the racingbeat, borla, mazdaspeed, or one of the dozen other exhausts actually meant for the 8.

if your just looking for tips i would say go to AutoZone im sure they have some for like $20. as far as exhaust i would say go with a company that specializes in rotary like racing beat, mazda speed. i have GREDDY and love it

Borla and a few other companies do make bolt on tips.

I just don't understand why anyone would want them. Save the money and put it towards a full exhaust system. If you are patient and don't need this anytime soon you can always order it from the rx7store and just head up to C-Bus to pick it up. I did that and had them install it while I was there. Just don't expect anything approaching a speedy turnaround.

don't waste your time changing tips. hold out a lil and just swap in a new catback.

i just have tips, 4". i think they're awesome. why save up all that money for minimal to no hp gain?! sound, that's the only answer -- op, if you're looking for a more aggressive sound or something (borla sounds pretty sweet), then save up, but i totally agree with you, and disagree w/ everyone else ... the stock tips are horrible, like a civic or something, it looks so much better with good size tips, and it's not necessarily worth saving up for a full exhaust system. i mean, if you plan on getting an exhaust down the road, then definitely wait, but if you're just looking for a quick fix for the horrible stock tips, get new tips, it's a great solution. i bought some and had them put on for under $75 total, so to me that's a steal for how good it looks...i got mine online, i forget where though...

Well when people see 4" tips they generally expect to hear a noise coming from them that matches the look. Our stock exhaust isn't even loud enough for the stock tips...

But to each their own. I got my exhaust because it sounds great, looks good, gives me a few HP with my untuned N/A, will give me more HP when I get my AP, will give me even more HP when I get my midpipe, and will give me even more HP if I ever go FI.

A good catback exhaust is one of the few HP mods we can get that sticks with a car throughout any future mods and keeps improving as other parts of the car are improved.

And at least with my exhaust the note that comes out from it matches the tips that came with it.

i see what you're saying, but this isn't a v8. i mean, most people i come across don't even know what a rotary sounds like, or should sound like, at wot or idle. they just don't ... so whether it's got big tips, a complete exhaust system, or stock tips, the average person, i don't think, looks at my tips and says pssh, that doesn't sound right because they just don't know...unless your car was right next to mine to show the difference.

if i had money i would buy all that too, trust me, but spending $75 to cure the unsightly stock tips was much needed and much easier/cheaper than the alternative.

he stated he's looking for tip "for now" meaning he plans on changing it to an exhaust sooner or later. why waste time on the tips. There is no argue about it that the stock tips are puny, but it's better to be patient and spend the money on a exhaust a little bit later than get tips now.

I don't really agree with this... it was said quite a few times that an exhaust will not give any appreciable HP improvement over the stock system. So unless you want the look and sound, you're fine with replacing the tips, and it won't cost too much. Now if you want to change the sound too, then getting a new catback is the way to go.
This of course comes from someone who is happy with the quiet stock exhaust but replaced the tips with Magnaflow ones

By all means if your happy with the quiet stock exhaust, tips will do nicely. But the poster insinuated that he may want a new exhaust later on. Guess it depends on how long it would be till that would happen.

In any case, a local exhaust shop where you plan on having the tips welded would have an inventory for you to look that.

half the fun of an exhaust is the SOUND. Putting tips on it thought it might be visually stimulating, will still leave you asking for more.

Actually those tips look kick ***, either you can spend $100 and get the look, or you can spend $1000+ and have a shop install a completely new cat back & gain nothing - leaving you thinking why the hell did I spend the extra $900? For some extra noise? Now, I wouldn't mind if someone gave me an exhaust but I wouldn't pay $1000 for it.

Of course, the debate over exhaust becomes relevant if you're going FI.

You can get tips from Walmart and get them put on.

There are a few pictures in the forum. Looks good.

Try searching Walmart. or Tips. Thread is probably 6 months or older.
