Dark blue color // changing colors?

Storm blue?

I really wish there was a really dark blue color, blue-gray (more blue than gray). I'm not getting an 8 until next summer, but I'm doing a lot of research and the daily debate is the color. I think I've finally come to terms and eliminated the black which was the early favorite. Tit gray looks so great in pictures, but when I see it in person, it just kind of looks drab. I don't know why.

Dark dark blue would be perfect. I used to have an example in my mind, but I forget which cars have this color.

There is a blue but its not real dark. My favorites are the blue and red. I have a red one. It really sparkles in the sunlight. Green looks black in the shade but also sparkles in the sunlight. The 2005 has a white sparkle color now. You have to go and test drive one of these cars. After you test drive it, colors start to grow on you as you remember the ride and not the color.

i've seen one online with that color (the darker blue/grey) and one in japan when i went there for vacation. both had body kits and looked really really good. that would be my top choice for color if it was offered as a standard color but i'm not willing to pay the cost for getting that custom color on it.

in fact i was kinda disappointed in my 8 just because i know just how much better mine could look. hehe.

I don't prefer the winning blue. And I have test-driven the car, that's why I'm not just a sideline admirer... i'm a sideline admirer obsessed with buying it next year while I try to do more research on my first car, and to make sure I'm not being impulsive.... as well as saving up for it. I want to buy it, no financing.

How much would it cost to get it custom-painted? What are the insurance repercussions? Just let them know it's not tit gray?

I love all the colors except the nordic green and lightning yellow. i got the winning blue when i did because i had only seen one on the road when every other color was red or silver. i like to get things that arn't always seen, even though i'm not one to try and stand out in a crowd. like you want to RUmble, i didn't finance...never wanted to, never did. i knew with me being 17 it was going to be outrageous insurance. i didn't want to have two fat payments!

The blue I'm talking about.

That's the color... sort of. Neptune Blue on the Lexus. Maybe a shade of gray mixed in. But that's the idea.

Doug... I hear ya about the two fat payments. Although I'll be 25 by the time I get this car so, the insurance will be quite low.... especially with Geico being in NJ now!

About Lightning Yellow... that is actually my favorite color for the RX8. Though I don't think I would ever get it in that color, too self-conscious, and I'd have to get it used. But it looks so good. The "neptune blue" would also look awesome, and I wouldn't be self-conscious.

Here in Australia we have to blues one called winning blue and the other one coming in a strato blue .

The strato blue is darker but it has got a blue /purple type mixture in its paint not the blue you are looking for .

As an owner of the Lightining yellow RX8 all i can tell you is that this colour makes the lines on the RX8 stand out .

Yellow rocks :D

cheers

What burnt Orange mica? That might look pretty good... I went to the mazda site and actually saw a strato blue for the mazda 3. If that's the strato blue in australia, that's not bad.

GeTcRuNk: I'm from central jersey, Princeton.

Just get the Lightning Yellow, you won't regret it. But I doubt you'll be able to find a new one by next summer, as the color has been discontinued for '05.

Strato Blue is available in some non-US markets, like Australia as Lock&Load said. It's a deep dark blue with a touch of purple. You can view it on Mazda's Japan and German website. I don't know if it's possible to special order such a color for the US, probably big bucks if it's doable. There's also a special edition "Shinka" model coming in the winter that will feature a black cherry mica exterior and a parchment (light tan) leather interior. Which might be slightly easier to keep looking clean vs. the pure black.

Does anyone know what it would entail to get a custom paint job? THe risks involved as far as reliability of custom paint jobs in general. Any insurance hassles with a change?

Custom paint jobs cost a lot of money because they involve a ton more prep work, plus more paint. I had my RX-7 painted a different color and the biggest problem I ran into (besides the paint looking like **** cus I went to the cheapest bidder) was finding touch-up paint. I had it painted GM Pewter Metallic, which there were about 15 differnt shades of in the GM paint catalog. I had no idea which one the body shop used, and even if I did, different brands of paint don't always match perfect.

RUmble .. you might want to take a look at this link. This is what the Brits, Aussie (?) and Japanese call Strato Blue. Very nice!

Doug Istill think youcar can look decent ifyou paint the middle of the front bumper - the entire roof - the trunk cover - and finally the middleof the back bumper all to matchyour hood. Rightnow when I lookat your car it seemslike its in the middle of a paint job that is temporarily on halt.

Thanks a bunch RUmble, you suck :p now I want that color too, that is a NICE blue.

Like you I am debating the color I want for mine, I think I have come down to the blue, but well lets see what the dealers got with what I want on it, then maybe I won't even have to decide on the color

I like Strato Blue, but Royal Purple would be better.

Correct... I skipped the fins and the colour coded dam because I thought it would be too much. The contrast of the black panels at the bottom of the car with the yellow looks fantastic so I think it was the right decision (and saved me 600 quid. ) I did go for the filler cap tho.

It really brings out the rotary shape in the bonnet, doesn't it? And it feels like you're sitting in a Caterham :D

Unfortunately yellow has become fashionable for sports cars in the UK Thank you Seat and MG...

I think the blue the original poster is thinking of is the Nissan colour that Skyline 33s and S14a's came in.

I thought you were describing the blue that the X2 RX-8 was, but then I saw the pic of the Strato Blue and realized that that is the color of the X2 8.
