Crazy body kit idea inside!!!

Sorry to the guy who's picture I jacked from the Wheels forum, (nice ride, by the way! :D ), but here's a wacky idea for a body mod:

Buy 2 sets of the rear aero flares, and use the second set to do the front. The rear right should flip over and fit the left front, and vice versa.

Would it work? Are the body contours the same? Am I a jibbering idiot, or is this an idea?

Please tell me if I'm crazy or if I should order these. And excuse the 30 second hack job I did adding the front flare to this photo.

Tony -- the scratch on one of the side aero flares is much larger than I thought. I didn't really look at them when the shop I use took them off and put on my MS body kit. They mentioned a scratch but I didn't really care-- so I didn't inspect too closely. Must have happened when I put my coilovers on and set them REALLY low for a day. Other than the long scrape along the edge of one they are in great shape. I will post the pic below so you can see it. I will ask my shop on Mon. if they would repair and paint it for me (they already have the paint from doing my eyelids) and owe me a favor for a few referrals. Review the pic and let me know what you think.

Hmm.... Hard to tell where on the piece that scratch is, due to the close nature of the pic. Could you maybe post one that is of the whole piece? I appreciate it, and am very interested in them, just want to make sure I know what I'm getting.

Thanks.

I dunno... interesting idea but I'm not sure I like it. Makes the car look... ahem... cut in half or what. Or as if you had the Mazdaspeed side skirt and you had an accident that made a dent in the middle.

Didn't use my good camera when I took the pics the other night -- here is another shot. I will post in the morning if I can have it repaired. It is tough to see in the pic -- the scrape is right on the lip about 2/3 of the way to the rear -- about 4 inches long.

RXhusker,

Can you share anything on perminent holes and cuts that are present due to the removal of the side areo flare? The thread I read on it's installation lead me to beleive that there would be lots of holes and some piece that had to be cut. So I decided enhancing the sides with another body kit was out of the question. However, your comments have given me hope.

Please let me know if you have any info on this.

TIA

MS kit covers all the holes -- thank goodness! I saw Huff at Vivid's car and his sideskirts didn't cover one of the holes so he used a vinyl cover patch painted to match. I think any of the aftermarket sideshirts will cover all the holes left by the rear side flares -- except for one or two that are under the "flared" part -- some of the aftermarket side skirts don't come up nearly as high as the side flares. All of the other holes are on the lower section and would be covered. You just have to grip really hard when you realize you have to drill even more holes in your 8 Not an enjoyable experience.

RX8husker,

Thanks fot the additional info.

Is it possibel to remove the side areo flare and put it back one without issue? As in is there any adhesive or anything else? I might have to take mine off to figure out where the hole are. Based on your description, the one I like probably won't cover them ...

You can take it off without any issues -- looks like the one you like is the Auto-EXE kit -- same as Vivid Racing's project car. I would suggest you call Huff and visit about it. If you haven't dealt with Huff before -- don't worry -- he will be more than happy to visit and answer your questions -- he is an 8 owner and enthusiast just like us. He can tell you exactly how that kit attaches to the car.

Quick note.....

I installed the appearance package myself, and the side skirts are lined with an adhesive tape from front to back. I wouldn't suggest pulling it off if you're not interested in scraping off the existing adhesive & re-applying.

The side skirts don't mold to the body worth a sh$# without the adhesive tape, especially near the front.

Landon,

Thanks for the info. Would you happen to have the installation instructions and the ability to post them?

the gap isnt very stylish its as if part of the kit got cut off
maybe if it was a truck and like a little step popped out for small kids haha just kidding, but yea.. i dunno
