I have ordered a set of these from Gemini. My intention is to eventually fit strakes for these vents. I am also considering looking at CF strakes, dunno if I can do them in CF but when I have time, sometime around the end of January, beginning of February, I am going to look into doing the strake fitting and study how to do CF. Perhaps it will be some sort of process where I will design a smaller strake based in resin and lay over the CF then use a clear UV stable resin to cover the CF.

Well, once again it is nearing 2 AM and I just came in from the garage molding parts readying them to go to the painter soon. Of course I will work on the above, if I do not die first from exhaustion. :D

What would it look better in myRed 8??
CF fender vents with black mesh or with silver mesh???
I just want this part to match my MS Style CF wing...I also have fender strakes...
I am thinking silver mesh like in the pics would look good. What do you think??

If you keeping your wheels stock or brushed aluminum, then I would keep the mesh silver, if you are changing the wheels to black or your planning on having more black accents on the car, then I would go black with the mesh. But do whatever suits you.

takahashi 01-30-2005 02:26 AM

I think silver mesh... Not red CF though if you are planning to have the MS wing in CF then I think silver mesh and black CF should be great.

No stakes though... hate stake with CF vent. IT is an overkill

GrRx8MaZdA 01-30-2005 04:09 AM

Hey taka i have already strakes and CF Wing...I ll give it a try though.
Off course black regural CF...

takahashi 01-30-2005 05:40 AM

May be I am saying not to put the CF and stake together - just lose the stake then ;)

I got the black with silver but decided to change the sliver to black as my theme is Velocity Red and black If you have a lot of silver on your car then leave them aluminum but if not, ask for black grills. Give them a little time, they will get back to you and they are a great company to deal with. This is from my own experience. IN additon, the stakes will not fit with these grills but...give me a few weeks, I plan to work on it. ;) Look for a new finish soon!

^^^ Hmm.. your vents look different from the other vent posted w/ strakes.. am i seeing this wrong? or are they different?

takahashi 01-30-2005 09:50 PM

Look nice Dennis. Who is the handsome person holding the video camera? (in the reflection) Is that you Dennis?

These are different as they are not turned forward, they are just CC of the originals with out the grill work. If you took out all of the plastic grill that is on the OEMs, this is what shape they would be.

Taka, no, that was my youngest son taking the photo. He had some time off and alone at home and put the grills in place to take the photo. These are not actually on my RX-8 yet. He just placed them in for the photo. I am a bit older and quite a bit heavier than he. :)

And why the strakes don't fit without a mod???
Looking Nice...Regural Carbon Fiber??

Regular Carbon Fiber.

If you move the strakes one inch, the contour of the fender changes and they will stick out. Besides, the CF vents here are not in the same place for the grill to attach to the side strakes. For a modification to work properly, they have to be moved to the location that is across the bridge of the opening and drill a mounting hole in that area.

Also, the OEM will not sit in this depression so there has to be either a modified strake or a part that fills this gap somehow. The modified strake cannot be an OEm aluminum strake it would have to be a manufactrured strake from someone who does custom work which could be3 made from a polyurethane resin. :D
