Yes the OEM ones are functional as well, BUT because of the thick plastic material and bulkiness of it there is less air flow thru the OEM ones ;)

Mikelikes2drive 11-09-2004 06:24 PM

those do look really nice, i take back what i said, it looks better in the light. Id rather spend the 200 dollars elsewhere though honestly like on the new RB intake system. but yah when i said u could get a cf hood for under 235 i meant for other cars like on a civic or an accord which cost like 150... sorry shouldve been more clear.

takahashi 11-10-2004 06:07 PM

I ordered ... thx BIU

hey anyone know if I need to take the wheel off do install it. I read somewhere that to install it you loosen the rear plastic guard and push the old one out -.. anyone knwo where the thread is?

takahashi 11-10-2004 06:13 PM

Found this in the DIY forum - may be useful
https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...t=vent+install

BIU 11-10-2004 06:51 PM

nope you dont need to take off the wheel at all..

it only takes less than a minute to pop them off :)

just turn your wheel to one side accordingly and take out the 3 pop rivets and voila you can reach in the back and pop the vents off

takahashi 11-10-2004 08:49 PM

Thanks BIU ;)

Can't wait for it to come... it will look great. Certainly I may be the only one in Australia! ;)

So I guess I'm out, I wanted the vents in Red Kevlar to match the hood, and this is the message I received from Marc at Geminicomposites today:

Hello Brian,

The fender vents are now available, the cost for the RX-8 club members is 215.00 CDN or 180.00 USD, that includes shipping. Unfortunately, there is no way to change the colour of the carbon material. We have no immediate plans for the trunk or the gas door, but we hope to start working on the mirror covers soon. As far as other parts go, if there is enough demand and people are willing to wait for us to do the tooling for the molds, we are open to most any new product suggestions.

Best regards,
Marc

WEIRD...........

Lemme talk to Marc for you about this...

im pretty sure he misunderstood what you said....

they should be available in colored kevlar CF

wait for my word Bro i'll get an answer for you

takahashi 11-11-2004 03:06 AM

When I emailed him, he asked me if I want Black or Silver....

I guess he meant the mesh right?

Anyway, I ordered and wanted all black anyway, since my car is black. I want one just like yours BIU.

EDIT: have a closer look on yours - look like silver  .... I think I still want black. Black is better as it does not show up as much and it is still have the classy look of CF.

devious12 11-11-2004 07:13 AM

I emailed him back just to ask Marc to clarify what he was saying, because I'm confused myself.

devious12 11-11-2004 03:15 PM

Ok he was answering the question that I asked about making a hood with more grey than usual. I misunderstood what question he was answering, I'm back in and getting these vents!

Hello Brian,

When i said the colour couldn't be changed i was referring to making a hood more grey for your friends car. We can make the fender vents with the red carbon/kevlar for you.

Best regards,
Marc

takahashi 11-11-2004 04:30 PM

WoW! Any colour you like. Perfect.

Yes BIU - I think it looks great in our black 8... will take pics.

SEE? what did i tell ya?..lol :p

takahashi 11-14-2004 04:24 PM

About the vented hood from Gemini...

Is the vent going to get water into the engine bay? You see the winds will gather the water at the central part of the hood when the car is moving????~!

yeah water is going to get in no matter where your vents are...

but if you have your engine cover on the water doesnt really affect anything because it will just roll off the edges of the cover........ and i wouldnt really recommend having the cover off if you have the vented hood because the alternator is around that area where the vents are... you dont really want water on there :)

takahashi 11-14-2004 04:39 PM

ic... I don't have my cover in anymore since I have the 4 point strut bar put in... damn no CF vented hood for me

takahashi 11-22-2004 05:17 AM

BIU

Only one question, is the double tap enough for the job.

Yup its more than enough for the job, i "tried" yanking mine off...its impossible lol

yup just keep the tape where they are...Marc already has them all at the right spots...just take off the OEM vents, peel off the backings of the tape...and pop them babies on ;)

takahashi 11-22-2004 04:29 PM

OK ... I will do that tonight ;)

bureau13 11-26-2004 11:18 PM

Anyone with a silver car have these installed? How about some good, detailed pictures of this setup?

jds

sohcpunk 11-29-2004 09:57 PM

please take some close up shots, I cant tell the quality by your far shots. also take close up of the vents uninstalled on the car, thanks

BIU 11-29-2004 10:00 PM

Taka you got any pics of yours?

takahashi 11-29-2004 11:13 PM

I forgot to take some BEFORE installing... but I can take some and post it tonight.

Sorry jds. My car is black as well

BIU 11-29-2004 11:56 PM

how'd you like them so far Taka?

i still stare at them everytime before i get into the car lol

takahashi 11-30-2004 02:15 AM

My batt of the camera is just dead.

I love to look at them but not in love as much as you are :D. I think they are a much better look then the cheap OEM plastics, especially that the stupid OEM mesh collects wax and dirt.

I need to get carbon fibre B pillar to match it now :o... although not completely necessary ;)

bureau13 11-30-2004 08:37 AM

The mesh can be silver or black, right? Which way do you guys have it?

jds

BIU 11-30-2004 09:11 AM

i have black CF with black mesh

takahashi 11-30-2004 04:04 PM

I have the same as BIU. To scare to go silver in a black car - I don't have a chrome fuel door either :)

Gomez 11-30-2004 09:40 PM

It's the dark mesh one he says...though it's had to tell as he was obviously in a RUSH.....C'mon Taka, you can do better than that :) :)

takahashi 12-01-2004 04:13 PM

I don't have time to get the tripod out but I think it is the best pic out of the lot.

It is a dark/black CF blend with some grey/silver with it. The mesh is a shade lighter than black. In website colour term, black is #000000, then this colour is probably a #111111.

I will take some more if you like.

truemagellen 12-01-2004 04:15 PM

more please....and from a distance too :) I want to photoshop it on a sun silver 8 :)

thanks Taka...also anyone else with pics please post :) thanks!

Cam 12-01-2004 05:19 PM

takahashi 12-01-2004 05:30 PM

Bonnet?? Oh yeah, that's the hood for us in the states.
Uhm, NO shots of you on the bonnet!
Far away shots without you in them will be fine. :D

takahashi 12-02-2004 03:58 AM

I am too lazy to park it outside to take pics.

DaveRX8 12-05-2004 09:35 PM

are they only producing the carbon fiber? Or are they producing the silver one like in the second pic on the first page.

takahashi 12-05-2004 10:22 PM

If you mean the one labelled Style 2 with the Autobaun sticker on the black car.

Yes: It is still carbon fibre - only the mesh is in silver. You can order one with carbon fibre with silver mesh.

My one is black mesh. -- to be exact. My black one's inner side is silver. So do they paint silver first and paint over black if the customer requested it??

BIU 12-05-2004 10:30 PM

are you talking about the mesh material or the vent piece itself?

Mesh
- comes in silver
- can be requested to be painted black

Vent piece
- comes in normal black CF
- also comes in colored kevlar/CF (blue,orange,silver,red,yellow)

takahashi 12-05-2004 10:52 PM

Orange

BIU I dare you putting an orange CF with silver mesh on your car ;)
