Carbon Fiber Roof
5 Attachment(s)
Hi all, I own Speedcraft Composites and am looking into making some Carbon Fiber Roof skins for the RX-8
I do a lot of wrapping for tuner and exotics alike but have found that with the time and effort to wrap a roof its just easier to make a skin that can be glued on. Im not selling anything yet but since ill be doing the roof on my 05 no sunroof RX-8 im just testing the waters to see if i should make more then one. or if there is anything else you guys are interested in. again im not taking orders just seeing if there's any interest. |
very nice work you got for the F360. =)
you can probably do mirror covers...for a start. I got a stock aero with CF wrap but the quality was not great. I think if you can make a stock aero CF version, a mazdaspeed CF version, those will definitely sell like hot cakes :) Just my opinion of course... |
when you say aero. to what are you referring to? and do you mean making a copy out of carbon or making a one off piece
hello im very interested
Thanks a lot guys for the fast response.
Since we're doing this I might as well ask. what would you pay for something like this. please consider it will be real carbon fiber. using either plain weave or twill or even carbon kevlar and color combinations |
twill weave i will pay up to 2 grand
i am also interested in
carbon interior parts/mirror covers good pricing?? |
Carbon fiber interior door panels\door cards? Some companies also sell carbon fiber rear windows replacements.
It would be cool to replace the glass on the sunroof with a carbon fiber plate :) Just some ideas =) |
I would be very interested in something like this, however it all depends on final cost and Im not sure how much Id be willing to pay as I do not really know accurate pricing for a job like this
keep it coming guys i need to know who's in. in the mean time for those of you looking for interior or exterior wrapping email me individually for pricing. as for the roof skin I might have it as soon as next month.
^would that be just without sunroof?
What Id love to see is interior panels rapped in cf... perhaps colored cf
^ Someone has already done something like that in regards to what I did in my DIY plus wrapping the center console itself, and the top panel that displays the DIN
where abouts in SoCal are you?
nice work on the 360 |
What about matte black. I would want that no cf
^^^ just go get your roof painted matte black.
this thread is about CF overlay pieces. |
I live in west hollywood ca my shop is in torrance ca i do some of the mold making in san diago. there is no problem with making a sun roof version as long as there is a demand and yes i can wrap almost any interior pieces in carbon, carbon kevlar or what have you.
definitely do a sunroof replacement in CF.
i've been wanting to buy some CF to mold to the sunroof glass... what would that cost? material wise, and if its already made? the CF door panel replacements seem like a good idea too... wow, those are gonna be some great aesthetic weight shaving pieces! another oem piece to have laying around like some on here who has CF hoods... great... |
btw, is ur shop open to the public?
i have family who still live in hollywood. maybe i can swing by to see ur products when i'm down? |

That's it about the sunroof replacement. The door cards won't save weight but they'd be pretty cool (Except in the event of a crash :) ) |
sunroof inserts will be the next project, but for know im looking to see what the interest is for the whole roof.
I would defintely be, how would you ship a stiff roof overlay?

shipping is a non-issue once i get some more feedback ill make a couple of prototypes and post them here.
next question plain weave or twill. example photo attached |
I would be interested!! I was thinking before to buy a 3M carbon fiber sticker and clear coat them for my roof... but now you are doing this, you should show us your final product... what if I am not local??
shipping is no problem as long as you are willing to pay for the freight. installation will be as easy as 3m two sided tape or spray adhesive. I am speaking with 3m and another company for best adhesion that would not damage the paint if you where to wish to remove it at a later date.
would be interested depends on price and want to see the final product.
/\ Same here, I'd like to see some products since im overseas and I'd be willing to pay for shipping to get carbon parts...
I been looking for carbon overlayed areo flares...as well as interior... |
I can wrap/overlay any part you ship to me. feel free to check out come of my work at speedcraftcomposites.com
interested in a rf roof, but have sunroof... What about a cf sunroof replacement as well as a roof wrap?
like i said the sun roof is also a good idea. i would need a sample piece to make a mold from. if anyone has an extra one lying around.
3M Di-Noc Faux Carbon Fiber Vinyl is a nice touch for full roof applications.
Interested in the roof overlay with sunroof. Plain 1x1 weave and maybe dry carbon, or at least matted finish. All depends on final cost and fitment.
Looks like many will finally get a piece that's been sought after for quite a while!
:yumyum: Start producing cf stuff for the interior and you will have opened my wallet
Twill weave |
SCC, go to a scrap yard and measure part diameters. Im sure you can find several totalled RX-8s... Theyres too many young kids that dont know how to handle a lightweight rwd car and think they "absolutely have to have one." Happened to a friend of mine... Im sure that there are a bunch of totalled ones lying around...
if this is a dry carbon overlay, let me know where i sign up!!
there is no such thing as dry carbon. its a misnomer, if your referring to "pre-preg" then no the parts will be vacuum bagged. if you mean the semi gloss look that some companies refer to as "dry" then sure all that is is the same part hit with 800-1000 grit sand paper or just not final polished.

sorry but that's retarded, would be ridiculously expensive, and there would not be a high demand for it. Keep in mind, unless you're buying authentic MS and then having a CF overlay put on, you're risking buying some piece of crap Replica that isn't going to fit properly and your shop will have fun trying to get a CF part to fit properly. not gonna happen... that isn't a knock on SCC's products but the fact that it would be based off an inferior replica part that is notorious for horrible fitment. just my $.02 |
thank you for your feedback jedi54 I appreciate all input that is why i posted this tread. maybe I haven't been clear. though the roof piece will be a manufactured part (as apposed to overlay/wrapping) the wrapping service that i provide is for customer supplied parts. if a customer wants me to wrap there MS body kit then i will. heck i can do the entire car and make it look like a Zonda if so desired and funded.
so you see i do not buy parts and wrap the for resale. i hope that clarifies things a bit. |
if the price is right I think I am willing to actually take a trip down to socal to get my roof wrapped
how bout some carbon fiber vents? :aroused:
otherwise id really be interested in a roof and other miscellaneous things |
SiLVeRE8 once the skin is complete and approved by me it will be a part i can ship to you to be installed by you
SCC, i think that if you could fab up a cf roof/wrap that it would be an instant hit and really put your name out in the business, not that it isnt... im just sayin... Anyways... just take my advice and go to a junkyard and get the measurments! Then you will have what you need to make the product work. Unless thereis something im missing... and if there i, infom me and i will help out.

Sick! Got an idea on a price yet?

i have sun roof...
can't wait to see the final product..
