mikeA,

Looks cool. But it would seem the ECU, battery and fuse box are covers, not replacement parts. I think it's a good price for actual pieces. Maybe a little steep for covers. But i think it looks cool.

From their web site.
You are looking at the new 5 piece carbon fiber engine dress up kit for the new RX8. Each piece made of high gloss REAL carbon fiber. The big center piece and radiator cover are replacement parts, the other 3 units are covers that will mask your existing parts. This kit is user friendly and will take you less then 5 minutes to install.

I don't know what you are talking about 2 of the 5 being replacement parts......
All of them are replacement covers.
You will change out the stock covers and replace them with the carbon fiber covers.....
I know $799 is a bit steep, but I know they will go down soon

MikeA,

My comments were from the info on the web site. I think they are saying that the engine cover and raditor cover complety replace the existing covers we would have, but you use you existing covers under the other carbon fiber peices that are part of the kit. I could be wrong.

Cool find.

They've got the engine cover by itself on ebay for $400.

Way too much money, Not worth it. Are the covers that go over the other parts REAL cf or stickers?

No, the parts are not stickers - they are made of REAL CF!
Also Whealy, you & me are both right!
They just worded it wrong on their site. They think you will just place them over your stock battery cover, ecu, the other piece. But if you noticed the are designed to replace them also!

See here .

Replacements for the Fuse/Battery/Computer are also coming.
Example photos of other engine covers look very high quality.

O.K. so see the diffence in the quality we have

those that are pictures above are Wet-Laminate Pieces

Not Pre_preg carbon like IPT parts

There is no thermoset resin and the parts are clear coated

they are actually just wrapped over the original pieces

Wet lay-Up or Pre-Preg?

In the wet Lay up process, a dry carbon-fiber mat is placed in the mold, and then the resin is poured and brushed into the carbon fiber cloth.

Pre-preg refers to a particular kind of carbon-fiber mat that has resin pre-impregnated in the cloth. Heat releases the resin from the cloth, so pre-preg mats must be keep cold until ready to use.

Each has its advantages and disadvantages. Dry carbon-fiber mats are less expensive than pre-preg and don’t require special handling before use. But the brush/pour method of adding resin is inexact and can be tough to control, so there’s a risk of having too much or too little resin in the cloth. Plus, the act of brushing the resin onto the cloth can cause the cloth to shift in the mold, which could result in an uneven weave pattern or snag in the cloth.

With pre-preg, the right amount of resin is already in the mat so there’s zero risk of over or under-coating the cloth. And since there’s no brushing, the mat won’t move once it’s in the mold, which will keep the weave even. But pre-preg is significantly more expensive than dry cloth/wet Lay-up.

IPT Starts with pre-preg sheets of carbon fiber mat. Then the mold comes a carbon-fiber part is only as good as its mold. So a lot of time and effort are put into constructing the mold. The smoother the mold the smoother the finish of the final product will be. This will bring out the shine in the carbon-fiber. No clear coats are applied to IPT carbon products the trick is in the mold.

on a side note there asking way to much money for a Wet-Laminate piece that will not last 2 monthes under the hood

Example:

others have tried to copy IPT 350Z pieces but they are not replacement !

they do not have thermoset resin (if you sont have part will melt and burn)

this happened to quite a few 350Z owners

and they ended up coming back to IPT

we have a pre order going on right now for 235.00 shipped

your getting a part with no clear coat

a part with a thremoset resin

a true replacment part

you see the quality we do i dont think others can match

this was pulled from cftype.com

3) Carbon fiber wrapping (for ex. when you remove the stock gas cap door or your interior panels, we can wrap the whole unit in CF)

I've looked through all of your threads, but saw no pic of the RX-8 engine cover. Do you have a picture of that?

So it's $235 total for a full engine cover? Or is that just to pre order and put toward the full price?
