Calling all RX8s lowered with Mazdaspeed kit
I want to go lower, but I'm afraid. Looking for other rx8s lowered with MS kits. What are you lowered on? Do you scrape? Sorry for the noob question... Here's mine.

Maybe it's just me, but I think it looks AWESOME just like that.
I haven't tucked my 8 yet (not sure I will) but I do have an '02 Jetta that is tucked and to be honest for a daily driver it's too low. I scrape going in and out of parking lots and even on the interstate in a few places here and there. So much so that I installed a complete lower skid plate to protect that stuff down there. I am going to get a set of Tein Basics installed and probably drop it just about as much as you have it, maybe 10mm lower but definitely NO MORE than that. IMHO, you've got an awesome looking right exactly as she sits. |
The good thing about the authentic MS kit is the material. It will handle light scrapes without damage other than underside scars.
If you daily your car lowered (more than an inch), you will eventually scrape at some point. How often that happens will depend on how low you go, how well you can angle, and how picky you are about where you go. |
Yeah I hear ya, it is kinda a daily, but I do try to take care of her (I have a jeep that I can beat up to go anywhere). I do present her at shows and meets and love the lowered look. I wanted to go just a tad bit lower to reduce the gap, but I have no idea what will happen to my bodykit if I do.
I was thinking about getting Tein basics just to get that "precise" drop, but I don't want to have a super stiff ride either. I am currently on MS springs/struts. I'm not sure what the difference in ride harshness will be... the MS suspension is great as far as comfort IMO. I also have my sprint springs also, but not sure if I can mix those springs with ms struts. So this is my predicament. |
awhhh...
I want it. |
mix them...I like sprint springs. Great drop and not a harsh ride at all

somebody with a set of 11r's I see.......................
You should have gone with a 35mm side wall instead of 45mm. S-techs or 90% of lowering springs on a 35mm dont look low enough--- Coilover time at that point. I know cuz its what I did |
are you lowered at all yet i cant really tell? if so how much f and r?
your rear looks really good (dont be immature..) but it looks like your front needs more drop I dont have a kit myselfbut ive seen other MS kits on 8s that were droppped and they are definetly lower than u. goodlooking car =] |

I got the MS suspension because I didn't want to be too low and scrape. Tein looks like a good choice at this point, I wanted MS kit owners with lowered bodies to show what they had, but so far no one has replied. Mazdaspeed springs/struts lower .8" all around. Sprint springs lower 2" all around, but not sure if it's a good idea to put those on with MS struts... |

oh I know this as I had them on before with OEM struts... question is, technically speaking, is it safe to take a matched set (mazdaspeed suspension) and swap a spring that is set at a different rate. Or will I be killing my strut? |

If your thinking of running teins you should be fine. I and others I know here in Jersey w/ MS kits haven't had problems. If we can get around here in jersey on our shit roads and elevation changes with the tein springs you should be alright in Chicago (I've worked out that way for over 10 years and been on your roads, other then the constant construction everywhere and traffic its not a bad place) Best of Luck |
Thanks Pico, I think that's all the info I needed. Just wanted some feedback before I change this suspension AGAIN! lol

^^ Your car looks perfect man. What type of suspension are you on? I don't have a beater but I never cared about practicality..... I would drive a GT cup car to the grocery store if I could.
|
Kuro, your car looks tasteful and low enough. I wouldn't go any lower. Sure, it would probably look a tad cooler if it was a little lower. But then you'd also be much more likely to scrape, bottom out and what not...
Leave it the way it is and enjoy it. Lower it more and you'll start worrying more about where you can or cannot go. It's not worth the stress. I've done it before so I know what it felt like. |

Kuro, Your car looks awesome as it is. If it were me though I would like the front a touch lower so I get where you are coming from. I think you could drop another .5" in the front and be alright for the most part.
|
I wouldn't mess with it. I love how your 8 sits as is. I was wanting tein s-techs with some koni's if I can ever get the mazdaspeed kit but now im feeling the mazdaspeed suspension. Very classy car my friend.

S-techs or 90% of lowering springs on a 35mm dont look low enough 245/40/18 breaks down like this: 245mm wide 40% of 245 gives sidewall height = 98mm sidwall 18 inch rim you want to be careful with that second number, you need to keep overall diameter the same or as close as possible to stock or you could mess up your speedometer and in turn your odometer... |

The second number in the tire ISNT a measurement number.. its an aspect ratio...

I think I just need to get the front a few mm lower. I want it to sit perfect front to back.
|
I had the Tein S-Tech springs on my 8 with the MS Kit and i only scraped on extreme angles.. if you want to go lower. i suggest them
