do you have a switch on the inside to adjust the height of the headlights? if so then you DO NOT have hids.
Also you could take your old bulb out and see what it is.
Or you could look at your bulb (light) as you turn it on against a wall, if the colour changes from a bluey colour to a yellowy colour, then you HAVE hids.
Hope that helps

US models don't have the switch in the car. Damn Aussies always get the cool stuff.
what package RX-8 do you own?
Sport
Grand Touring? (hint: if you have leather, you've got HID's)

So if you have HID's can you just buy the 8000K bulbs and install them into the headlights and it will come out a bluish color? or do I have to get the kit aswell...

I thought the Sport package (which is now the lowest package, right?) didn't have HID's? I thought it went:
Sport: base model
Touring: Sport + HID, fogs, Bose, sunroof and maybe DSC
GT: Touring + leather and heated mirrors
Performance package adds HID, DSC and fogs to sport.

ive bought a set of 8000k bulbs (for my hids) and one of them keeps 'blowing'. But i switch the lights off and on again and it works. Its really wierd because I have sent them back to the factory and it is happening again with the 'new' bulbs.
Can anyone recomend a brand of HID bulb that is not too expensive (sorry for being off topic)

I would guess it's the bulbs if you weren't having the issue with your OEM bulbs. Cheap HID bulbs can cause all kinds of problems like that. Personally, I would go with Philips Ultinon (only 6000K though and a bit more spendy but OEM quality).

I think the bulbs you got are flawed. There is no way for good quality hid bulbs 'keep blowing'. Where did you get them, by the way?
I agree with aipex8 that Philips probably is the best but just little bit pricy.
I used Apexcone HID kit before and liked it. They are Japan-made with good quality. Many online vendors carry them - like www.therpmstore.com
But were the OEM bulbs working well before you replaced them?

yeh oem was working well, just wanted the bluer look
i dont think its the ballests because when i changed sides it was on the other side
i got mtec bulbs as my fog lights are mtec aswell, thought they where a decent brand (not the best, but not too bad aswell)
might have to get my money back and try a different brand

My buddy bought a HID kit from ebay last year. Even if it was a decent brand he had to retunred one of the two bulbs twice because it didn't work at all. Finally we believed that it was a fake one made by whoknows.
Im not sure if you are in the same situation, but good luck! Hope it will work out.

mtec, have found a different place to get the bulbs from so will try them as piaa and phillips are both quite expensive, plus i like the bluer look rather than the white 6000k look that piaa and phillips offer

I don't buy Kool-Aid
Dont get PIAA they suck! I have them in right now and the driver one is not right. Its not as bright as the passanger one and its the same if I swap them front driver to passanger. Booo! best $100.+ down the drain. I'm going to **** on there booth at sema lol
