There are alot of good looking bodykits out there. I was wondering what the fit and finish are like? In particular the Ings kit. Which do you recommend?

Mazdaspeed is designed for the car and fits perfectly...don't know about the others.

welll it probably comes down to whichis better fiberglass or urethane right? except teh Mazda Mazdaspeed kit which made of "Meton". does anybody know what meton is adn whether any of the aftermarket guys use it? I tried to google Meton and didnt have much luck.

 

"Meton" is a superior material to even urethane.

In terms of bodykits, it's roughly:

Fiberglass < FRP < Polyurethane < OEM

"Hybrid Aero" fits somewhere between FRP and Polyurethane.

 

It is not cheap to develop the tooling to take advantage of this superior material. It is in the RIM family (Reaction Injection Molding) .. two parts (base and catalyst) are heated and then mixed at the point of injection into a mold. It is a relatively low-temperature and low-pressure process, compared to ABS injection, for instance.

The name of the Company is Metton ... they developed the LMR product. It is used in very large molding operations such as in tractor cabs and semi tractor-trailer hoods, etc.

Sorry but it is way more complicated than that. What do you think the OEM's use? There are a few classes of plastics used in plastics parts and on top of that a few classes of processing techiniques. I have been out of that technology for a few years but the two major classes of plastics were thermosets and thermoplastics. They are all molded. Some start as two liquid components (chemical reactants - thermosets) and some start as solids that are melted to flow and then molded thermoplastics. (For those of you who are still in this industry, I apologize) The OEMs all use the same basic technologies. The thermoplastics typically need higher pressures to mold the parts and therefore require more expensive equipment.

Within the thermosets, there are a few different types that I know of. One is the Metton polymer, the second is the 'pure' polyurethane and the third is the polyurethane\urea. The last being what I suspect most people call Urethane today. I won't point out the different but it is dependent upon what crosslinkers they use.

In any event, I would buy any of the polymers if I knew who made them, they had a track record of making quality parts and was shown proof of their fit and overall performance. A key problem with many of these polymers is their ability to stand up to heat in their horizontal sections - can you say 'heat sag'? - this is not a problem with many but is with the 'pure' polyurethanes and poorly formulated polyurethane\urea polymers.

A small company making a small number of parts will almost have to use less expensive tooling which probably limits them to cheaper polymers...

 

By "OEM" I meant our Mazda OEM. Yes, every OEM is going to be different. Mazda OEM is extremely high quality stuff. I took a 6-inch piece of plate steel that fell out the back of a pickup to the bumper of my Mazda6s at 80mph. All it did was poke a nickel-sized hole in the bumper where the corner hit. Even the paint didn't crack, let alone the bumper.

 

I have the Hybrid INGS and the fitments is damn good.

The only part that doesnt fit all that well is where the side markers are, its a bit off there.

I prefer Tsunami myself, Being that it was also designed for the car and fits perfectly :D plus its made out of urethane and wont kill your pocket book as much as those other companies. I don't know I guess I am biased

Would agree wit Bindo, I also have the Hybrid INGs (front only) and the side markers did need a bit of triming, but only behind the marker lens, none of the visible bits needed any work and it went on after about an hours tweaking the corners.

Compared to the veilside skirts which needed a whole day of fitting tweaks and then some creative mounting brackets.

Highly recommend INGs

Its not expensive when you look into it. Tsunami is a full urethane kit, not fiberglass and urethane. Most other manufacturers are selling cheap fiberglass kits for outrageous prices like the ings front for over $1000.00
If you drive your car daily, and its not a trailer queen then you should be looking into a urethane kit incase you hit an animal on the road or bump a curb. If you have a fiberglass front its gonna be a mess.

 

is it 900 for the front and sides? cuz if not its expensive cuz ive seen an ings front for 900 and if urethane is supposively more expensive...

 

You can find the front end for around 649.00 at Tsunami dealers online and the sides shoudl go for around 400-500 somewhere in that range. Id say higher 400's.

those prices seem a lot better... the only thing i dont get was there was a guy on the forum selling his for 875...

 

People need to do their research before forking out money on things, otherwise you find out the hard way. The guy selling it for that price was probably trying to break even since some places charge a lot for shipping large bumpers.

 

i just discover that your car does have the side marker, why?
