By any chance if we dont have the front air dam will it still work? i should try this

HWK11 05-09-2009 06:00 PM

^ you can do what twiz did. but i think he drilled into the car.

dhan 05-09-2009 06:00 PM

Oh so the only way is to drill it?

HWK11 05-09-2009 06:03 PM

im not sure. maybe someone else can tell you.
see if there are 2 screw on the bottom, if there is you could probably mount it.

kersh4w 05-09-2009 06:16 PM

this will work just fine without the front air dam.

no drilling required. you just remove 2 screws from the stock black lip and replace them with 2 screws from the kit.

easy as pie.

twiz, you should put some foam tape behind the top of the license plate so it doesnt scratch the paint on your bumper.

i actually did, but instead of foam, i used velcro, because i tried using foam, but it would rattle in the wind while i am on the freeway, so i thought velcro would be the next step.
Problem Solved:rock:

yeah, i was going to do that too, but i did not want to have it hanging under the bumper, because i have ha steep driveway (which i already scrape sometimes) so i thought it would be best if it want already lower than the bumper

also i plan on getting the Mazdaspeed kit, so drilling wasn't all that painful to begin with:D:

RIWWP 05-10-2009 09:47 AM

I'm thinking I will see about designing my own bracket, using this one as inspiration. See if I can't get it mounted flush with the bottom edge, but secure in the wind. I figure the higher up you mount it, while still using the same under-lip mounting points, the more the wind can push on the plate.

I'll post if I figure out something good.

kersh4w 05-10-2009 12:03 PM

i've never had any problems with it being secure in the wind.

its called torque. use it on the bolts.

HWK11 05-10-2009 01:35 PM

^ yup just get the bolts all tightened and there no problem with the wind

Adamrotor 05-10-2009 11:14 PM

Got it and installed it today thanks for the find and post.

tekk220 01-13-2010 07:53 PM

i was going to do this... but then what will i use to deter others from backing into me while parking....

autozone off center install still looks like crap. Better than buck tooth though.

Is the bracket adjustable enough to install and flip under the car so that it is not showing at all? Then if a cop complains you can flip it out and say - "oh jeez, the nuts must have come loose?"

I did this this weekend when it was amazingly awesome outside and I took care of my car. I didn't go as far down and to the bottom as some did, I drilled two little holes in the plastic dam and then threaded the bolts through it. Took like 5 minutes! Actually took longer to figure out where I was going to put it.

HomicidalApple 05-20-2010 10:11 PM

anyone have any ideas for me ive hit a road bump while installing this

my car has no undercarriage at all. its just all opened up under their, theirs 1 long screw and 1 of the metal things they screw into. but thats all i have.

i keep getting tickets for no front plate when parked even when its in my windsheild...

HomicidalApple 05-21-2010 05:55 AM

bump i really need help figuring this out... i need that plate on but i cnt see anything to bolt to underneath

If you see where I did mine, I drilled inter the plastic 'lip' that goes along the bottom. I actually drilled on the top-side of that piece. I can try and get a cell phone pic later today if you'd like. I just used a slightly smaller drill bit size and used the screws to thread it in; i've been running like this for months now.

hey what did you attach it to here? i have nothing to go into that would hold it.

I tried, they don't ship to Canada.

Atilla 05-21-2010 06:03 PM

Tubing; why don't you have a forum member in the U.S. buy it for you and ship it?

Well, I checked the Bell site, and it said Canadian Tire distributes their products.. Got a friend that works there that will try to bring it in for me..

If that fails, then I might have to :)

Bullitt 05-21-2010 06:07 PM

I only have one plate, but if the state ever makes me get another one, I'm definitely doing it. The off-center thing's not so bad if you have to have a plate.

theirs an autozone like a mile from my house and USPS and UPS next door to each other like a block away.

if you end up needing to go that route just post on my page and id be willing to help you out.

carbonRX8 05-21-2010 07:14 PM

Hey kersh4w, this is a great idea. I absolutely need this. Did you pick it up from a store or order it?

HomicidalApple 05-21-2010 07:40 PM

autozone 8.99

Krazed_Rx8 05-21-2010 07:58 PM

^ Which one did u go to?

Krazed_Rx8 05-21-2010 08:02 PM

^ Nvm found it.

HomicidalApple 05-21-2010 08:05 PM

yea. when you install lemme know. i need to see where you do it and what part i need to buy to install it. im missing the entire undercarriage, all that protective plastic is just gone

Krazed_Rx8 05-21-2010 08:49 PM

^ I might be SOL too since my engine undercover got trashed awhile ago thanks to a damn cone. I'll most likely buy it tonight just have to find a place to mount it on my MS replica

Chad D. 05-21-2010 09:05 PM

There should be the holes where the undercariage was screwed on. Just use those holes.

HomicidalApple 05-21-2010 09:07 PM

hmmm okay ill look again, i cnt get my damn head under the car its so low so i cnt really see much.

did you just use the hardware they included with the kit or did you use hardware from the car itself that was already their?

Chad D. 05-21-2010 09:10 PM

Yeah, I used the oem screws to hold it on the car but it comes with a set of nuts/bolts and a set of screws too so you shouldn't need to buy any additional things. The harware for setting angle/height is a allankey that is supplied. Great kit for under 10 bucks/

HomicidalApple 05-21-2010 09:13 PM

yea i have all te parts. i was just wondering because along with the entire undercarriage gone all the oem hardware is as well.

Chad D. 05-21-2010 09:26 PM

The screws supplied should work fine.

HomicidalApple 05-21-2010 09:42 PM

alrite cool thanks

Twiztog43 05-21-2010 11:55 PM

what i should have done before i put the bracket on was coat it in some anti-rust paint. over time you will notice rust
