I have an 09 GT and am thinking about ordering a pre-painted R3 front and sides but have a couple other questions, mainly has anyone removed the front black plastic on the 09 R3 or normal bumper to see what it looks like? Pics would be great, I'm not really in a position to take off my front bumper atm so I won't be able to do that but just wanted to see what it might look like with a black screen behind it instead of the massive plastic piece that is there atm.

 

I took it off and there is an edge and underneath the mustache is an equally thick plastic piece with a couple tabs to allign the grill. It's impossible to put a recessed grill without shaving a bunch of **** off.

 

Not undoable, but like Emart said alot of chopping ahead of you,,,

You guys know that a company sells the 09 front bumper in fiberglass for the 04-08, right?

 

That works great if you don't already have a 09+ Series II car like the ones of us who posted.

Damn Rotr8 I like that, its the R3 bumper right?(pretty sure giving the little lip under the "mouth". If only Mazda had recessed the grill some it would of looked alot meaner. I keep trying to decide if I want to order a R3 kit for mine, its just the bumper and sideskirts right?(I know spoiler but I have the lip spoiler and kinda like it and don't want to remove it)

Damn, that is what I'm talking about did you do it or someone you know? That looks sooo much cleaner then the big plastic front. I also might be more willing to mount my front plate on that so it doesn't kill the front lines like the current bumper does.

:o hmmm where did he get the CF grill? I like that vent on the top of it and gdi I need the R3 front I think, I waivering between that and some of the aftermarket ones but like the pre-painted and not overdone look of the R3 but will definately need to figure out something for the grill on it.

 

You will have to get a body shop to shave off all the alignment tabs or do it yourself. The other consideration is that the mustache covers the bar in the front so it will be visible with a different grill.
