Upgrade Kit Installed Anyone?
Upgrade Kit Installed Anyone?
Installed my upgrade kit today.
Anyone notice a powerloss after installing the kit.
I'm assuming with the Blocking plate in place and less air getting in the car cannot provide as much power.

I dont have the turbo but dont you guys think Its really Pathetic for Greddy to do that ? Why dont they just spend a bit more time in Tunning ? I've read so many posts that with proper tune. It should be fine.
I don't have any dyno time to verify this, but I have been asuming the blocking plate isn't a big deal since the turbo is so small it barely meets the RX-8 requirements. For most people, if you run at 10 psi, you'll be down to 5 or 6 psi by redline. With the blocking plate in place, you'll be able to run with the desired boost and no chance of the 6 port opening and causing a lean condition.
I think it's just safer this way with less chance of issues. There's nothing wrong with this, considering the greddy kit is a starter kit.
What we need are some people with the upgrade kit going on the dyno. Then we'll know how much power (if any) you'll lose with it in place, or if it doesn't matter due to the flow rate of the turbo.

Without the Blocking plate in place i was getting roughly 190kw's on the dyno
But the power came on slower and peaked a bit later in the rev range.
With the plate in place my power curve shoots up really sharp boost holds all the way.
Without the plate i was getting 190kw's with about 9psi with a drop to 5psi at the end.
with the plate in place i hit 176kws by 5000rpms but on 10psi holding boost all the way.
the curve sort of tops off at 6 and doesn't really want to rev anymore.
hopefully i'll have time to see if i can add more boost and get more power tonight.
might try for 12 or 14psi.
once everything is done i'll post my graphs.

I wonder how this would affect a 4 port setup. Since there is no reason to install the block plate and the 5&6 ports don't exist. I would think it would be easier to tune then.
just a thought.
just a thought.
I've discovered the blocking plate doesn't cause that big a power loss.
The next day i put it on the dyno did a little more tuning and first run gave me 198kw's.
Power peaks at about 5500 but then i can't get it any higher in high rpms.
by 9000 power drops to about 140kw's
something is definitely wrong with my car.
i have this feeling someone wired my injectors in wrong.
i think my p2's are wired in as my secondaries so the standard computer is using the p2's as secondaries causing the car to run strange.
have to check it again.

are you running with a cat? or are you catless? If you still have the cat, try removing it completely for a short time and see if the car still has the power loss. If the cat is clogged, it would give you similar issues as you describe now.
