Rotarys Oil

I couldnt find any threads relating to this topic, but if there is an existing one i apologize.

Anywho, my question regards the proper oil to use with a rotary engine, i know synthetic is a very thin oil and can cause older engines to leak like crazy.
So im curious if this would cause a problem with the rotary, apex seal leaks, or general leaks.

Any imput, experience, or street smarts would be much appreciated.

No body flame the noob.

With the modest bit of looking around or spending some time here, you would find that twice a week someone is starting a new thread about what kind of oil am I to use in my car.
There is already too much information posted to sum it up in one reply. Anything beyond using what is recommended by Mazda is taking an educated guess. And, there are many here that are very experienced and rotary educated.

Geesh, ok :)

bse50 03-30-2011 02:11 PM

Can we change the rules, Al?

alnielsen 03-30-2011 02:14 PM

Talk to the Admins. I'm betting the answer will be no.

bse50 03-30-2011 02:27 PM

:( how are we supposed to have fun now that nobody opens interesting threads but it's all about the mpg\oil\fuel\bad idle?
I want a sandbox and some tools to play in! :)

alnielsen 03-30-2011 02:33 PM

Make up parody threads about mpg\oil\fuel\bad idle in the Lounge and make up funny answers. There will be people that won't have a clue that you are being funny and try to get all serious. Then you have fun with them.
That's what the Lounge is for. The Tech area is for serious discussion.

bse50 03-30-2011 02:34 PM

So are you moving this to the lounge? :)

alnielsen 03-30-2011 02:35 PM

No, and I expect you to be using your best behavior young man.

bse50 03-30-2011 02:42 PM

I'm just bored, without an arm everything is boring. You can't drive, wrench, hump, workout etc.
I will behave politely anyway, wiseman ;)

terch1 03-30-2011 03:57 PM

All these rules are leading to some boring posts. I'm going to go take a nap.......zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I have 38 yrs and over a million rotary miles under my belt, on the track and on the street. Hey guys and gals, everyone should know you don't use ANY synthetic oil in your Rotary engine, Synthetic oil will not mix with the gas inside your engine and combust . Good ole Dino oil injected to lube the seals will mix , and is combustible and will be burned and exit via your exhaust. If you use synthetic oil for long, get ready for an engine repair. Use the 5W-20 for most climates. You can use a 10W-20 for hotter climates or racing.

Back in the ole days we did use Amsoil synthetic oil for our Race RX7s, but we rebuilt the engines at the end of the race season anyway. Now you have good premix from people like Pettit racing, to help the engines stay lubed and last. And the premix will combine with your gas and properly combust.

let's not get the noob into his first Dyno vs Synthetic arguement right off the bat.
