Rotary even the MM base tune feels alot more responsive than the stock PCM tune.... I'm not gonna lie.... the AP is worth it, especially if you ever decide to go FI because I don't know what I'd do for somebody to tune it around here.... I just dont think there would be a trustworthy garage within 1000 miles of me to do it. Also the data logging and CEL reader is super handy

The previous owner bought it from Mazdamaniac. Im not sure whether it will come with MM base. Even if it does, isnt the tunes car specific ??

Also lets say it does not come with any MM tunes. Do the "basic" maps/tunes that Cobb has put on there form factory be enough to "feel" a difference in performance ??

It won't come with MM's base map.
You won't feel a difference in performance with the base calibration. I don't even think you'll feel much of a difference with a complete tune!
You'll 'notice' a difference in a few things (slightly better mpg, quicker throttle response, better afr, etc). The reason to have a tuned car is to make sure that your engine is operating at its max efficiency (and we all know that the RENESIS was pretty well tuned from the factory)
Also, like RotaryMachineRx stated, if you ever want to go FI, the cobb is the best hope at tuning the engine properly if you're in a location that doesn't have too many (if any) rotary techs.

IIRC, the cobb come with 5 preloaded maps:
1. Stock (this is the stock-like map. Don't know the accuracy of it)
2. Stage 1 (This is a performance map. Better than stock)
3. Anti-theft (rpm's max at (i think) 2000)
4. Economy (rpm's max 4500)
5. Valet mod (rpm's max 3000?)

If you order tuning though MM, you will receive

Except none of those maps work unless you have the stock intake.... except the anti theft because it actually limits RPM to 200.... so the car will only crank and not start. Thats the only Cobb map I kept on mine just in case I feel it's needed

Or MM tunes.... I imagine since with say AEM or MS intakes your not changing the inner diameter so you'd be fine with the cobb tunes anyway.... but just my opinion I think one of the main reasons to have an AP in the first place is so you can get custom maps for your specific setup from MM...

The suggestion is to not use the Stage 1 map, there is a thread about how bad it is for a lot of people's cars.

stay with the Stock map until you're ready to tune/dyno your car, and use it to mask CELs for state inspections (o2 sensor is common).

Well something came up and i need the money for something else So i wont be picking it up.

I was also thinking why buy it when i risk ruining my engine with the stage 1. I dont want to buy it and run the stock map.. its kind of useless. The guy is selling the accessport for 300. And the MM tune would run me another 300 which all together will be 600. So i was thinking why not just wait and pay MM 600 for a brand new AP AND a custom tune :

It will be over $600 because of shipping, tax, etc.
