Cobb hooked their tuner (Chris) up with me, but he wasn't interested in hearing what I had to say about the process.

So I guess I'll have to source a pipe from someone in town and the couplers to go with it. Then I"ll have to weld a damn bung on the pipe for the MAF sensor. Wouldn't it be easier to change the MAF calibration? I saw a thread on that. I'm going to read it.

Jeff, I need your tuning services!!! But as the car is my daily driver (for now) I'm not sure how long I can drive with your base map...

There is a thread here somewhere where a guy is making and selling MAF housing that are identical supposedly to the AEM/stock housing in terms of dimensions.

An hour or so is too long?

Oh really? I will have to search for that. Hopefully he can cut it to the length of pipe I need.

Essentially.

If your MAF setup is non-standard or you have bigger-than-stock injectors in the primary position, you will need a modified base map to get the car running.

You can subscribe and show up for the live tuning session and I'll prepare a base map for you right at that moment. Then, you can go out and get some logs and come back.

Some people get the entire process done in one sitting. It depends on your schedule.

Awesome. Well then I'll leave the MAF housing alone and let you do your magic. I have bigger injectors, but I'm not sure if they were the primary ones or not I'll have to double check which ones I bought and had installed. I think they were 780cc injectors, but I can't remember if they were primary or not. Hopefully the shop knows. I know my map had one of the injector size settings larger than stock, so I'll look that one up.

I had a little discussion on the houston imports thread with your installers. They were trying to say their MAF setup was maxed out and needed a MAP setup even with the 3.5" lol. I don't know much about tuning but I knew that sounded wrong.

http://houston-imports.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=607990 That's the link so you don't have to search for it. I really haven't kept up to date on the tuning/turbo stuff since I don't have the money for it, so if I have something wrong my bad. edit: Pretty sure they had more posts after I posted up Turblown's answer but they must have deleted them.

I love how they make it sound like they know their **** and the install is all finished up. Any wrench monkey can install a kit. I swear, it's so hard to really find capable shops.

Stroud, you removed your crash bar to mount the intercooler? Your brave man, especially in Houston.

Hey thanks for that link. I had no idea they made a thread for my car. The pics look really good. The car actually runs really well, just very rich and I'd like to lean it out a tad. I was thinking that a larger ID MAF housing means that for each MAF voltage, the MAF (g/s) is slightly lower than stock. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes, is sucks I lost the impact bar in the front, but it's worth it!

Go with Jeff man, there is a lot of detail involved in tuning. And your shop has no idea what they are doing.

I'm beginning to think so. Jeff gave me some good info before and I was trying to get him to remotely tune on their dyno, but I couldn't get the shop and him in touch. Thinking about the remote real-time session with Jeff.

The shop told me that I needed a recirculation pipe for the BOV as "air leaves the system that the MAF measures. It needs to stay in the system." But I would have rather had the BOV vent to atmosphere cuz that sound is awesome. Is this true what they said?

YES, you need to recirc for a MAF car.

We were in touch. Chris just wanted something for nothing.

VTA BOV sounds cool, but ultimately will run like ***.

I will need ALL of that data or I will not be able to do much.
The OE MAF housing maxes out at 430 HP, give or take.
A 3" i.d. MAF housing will max out at 360 HP or less.

I would suggest otherwise.

No, it is not. There are many FAR more elegant ways of dealing with it. Cutting out the bar completely is just a short-cut.

I will get you the exact specs for injectors, and the MAF housing is 3.5" so the ID must be close to that.

I am not sure where I can move the intake air filter so that I can have my impact bar put back on. Did you see the link that was posted above to my build on Houston Imports? That's why they took the impact bar off. I'm open to suggestions. Once I have these things sorted out, I'll purchase your tuning service. I need to get new coils first...

J8635621, thanks for the link. I really appreciate it.

I'm glad I have people here to really know what they were talking about to help me. I was so sick of dealing with the shop that as soon as the car was done I took it and ran. I plan on getting MM tuning have having this done right.

Boost is fun...

Some douche in a new 335i came blasting by me on the feeder of I-10, I was cruising at 60, and in a matter of a few seconds in 4th I flew past him. Was doing 105 before I knew it.
