front bumper removal

+1 on what Glenn said. Sounds like the original video is a little more informative than the most recent one.

More detailed video for series II and ballast

Does anybody have a more detailed video that would show the bolts that need to be removed on a series II? Also is it necessary to remove the bumper to replace the ballast on a factory HIDs? Can the ballast be replaced by removing the fender liner?

The basics of removing a S2 bumper are the same. And honestly if you can't figure out how to remove a bumper then you probably don't want to tackle tearing apart a factory headlight assembly to get the ballast out.

So the ballast is inside the headlight assembly and not bolted underneath it? The reason I ask is that one dealership quoted me $360 to replace the ballast because they said they need to remove the bumper. A second dealership quoted me $118 to replace the ballast because they can get to it from the fender lining. Neither of them said anything about taking apart the headlight assembly.

Also, is the below ballast a direct replacement for the the OEM one?

I would have to look at a S2 housing but I am sure it is the same and the headlight has to be baked apart to get the wire out that leads to the ballast. I have a thread here about it, I cut the assembly rather than bake it part.

Used this video to replace the headlight bulbs

Thanks so much for your video. I just bought a 2004 cherry red RX8 for my 17 year-old son, and almost every bulb was out in the front. Removing the bumper made it very easy to get to all those lights. It comes off and goes back on real easy and quick. Thanks for posting.

Front bumper question

Good day, I recently acquired a 2004 and it is missing the two screws/bolts that go in vertically just behind the side marker lights that hold the front bumper to the front quarter can anyone tell me what size they are (threads and such )I am told that had an 8 mm head on it and I saw one really blurry picture of one but cannot find one on any exploded assembly view of the car .
If I could pick up something similar at a parts house or hardware store.
Thanks !
