I do my best to stay away.
Having to deal with childish behavior while attempting to assist others got real old.
Since I no longer "hover" around the forum and let things/individuals get to me, my personal life has been more peaceful.
When the actions of others in this forum started to affect my attitude away from the computer, I knew something had to change.
Really sucks it came to this because I enjoyed helping others, but it wasn't worth the headaches in the end.
Plus I found that people were asking the same questions repeatedly and all I was doing was linking them to the answers (because they couldn't/wouldn't search for it themselves), so I wasn't providing "addition" knowledge on a subject.

I turn on the RX8 LIVE feature at work to have something to look at if I'm sitting at my desk, but I rarely browse around the threads.
Occasionally, I'll see a question pop-up and offer some advise, but I honestly lost interest and have since moved on to other hobbies.
Hope this gives you (and others) some insight on my absence.

HI

If you read this please answer this question: Do I have to take the wiring out of the connector (like in the pic on your DIY) to test the impact switch? I tested it w/o wires removed and it reads 0.2 Ohms. I just don't want to have to buy a new one just from testing it wrong.....if I'm testing it wrong.

Anthony

EDIT: NM, I just bought a new impact switch b/c I figured it wouldn't hurt.

Thank you very much for this video. I've been having hesitation problems while trying to cruise at 4,000 RPM on the freeway; it only happens after 20 to 30 minutes of driving. I thought it was my SSV and I was about to pop everything out to clean it until I saw this video. I did the same procedure and everything moves freely without any hesitation. Only factors I can think of right now are my injectors or fuel pump needs replacement.

Saved me from attempting to do many hours of unnecessary work!

I answered my own question. Downloaded the Engine Details and I see that it should be:
-3.6 {-27.0, -1.1} or more |Starts to move
-27.9 {-209.2, -8.2} or less |Fully pulled
1.2 {9.0, 0.4} or more |Fully returned

You, sir, are the man!

I got the P2070 last week and after searching here came across both your DIY SSV removal videos and your suggestions to troubleshoot along these lines first. In my case, apparently doing the "long screwdriver" test was enough to free it up -- CEL cleared itself, and subsequently I tested with MityVac and then by having my wife rev up Mistress while I watched the valve actuator and everything seems to be working great again. Of course I realize unless the initial sticking of the valve was just some real freak occurrence, it's probably just a matter of time until it happens again so I will have to do the more thorough cleaning, but at least for THIS weekend this saved me hours of labor, bruised knuckles, and cursing. Thanks! :D

I have to admit I started to chuckle when i saw this thread titled with "intake valves." It's a really good video though. I'm also glad you posted it on Vimeo. Some places(like where i work) have Youtube blocked but Vimeo is not.

I understand the intake manifold isn't inside the car in this video, so some valves will be trickier to get to.
This is just to show the concept of testing the valves.

I have an 04 RX8 Stick that has 5000 on my short block rebuild with a street port. I just swapped out the APV actuator and the code came back. The gear looked fine teeth and all. I turned the gear easily so I did not replace it. I am wondering if the magnet on the gear is there to operate and end / position switch? Should I have replaced that as well? I did not test the new actuator because I did not want to damage it. I did try the old one and nothing moved. There are 5 prongs on the motor 2 in one row and 3 in another row.. my guess is the 2 together are the position switch and the 3 others run the motor. The Center being common and the outer ones are clockwise and counter clockwise. WOULD I BE CORRECT IN MY ASSUMPTION?
If it is not the actuator and position switch then the only thing left would be the wiring harness. Were on the module do these wires land? If I know that then I can easily check for continuity from plug to plug. Please if you know the answers respond.
I am also getting a Code P0410 my 2004 RX8 Is de-catted but the vac pump is still there. Even if I remove the vac pump I am told I will still receive this code. I need to get rid of these check engine lights so I can sell it. What is the smart thing to check on the vacuum pump.

My advice is that if you’re going to be doing this then you need to get the electrical wiring diagram for your specific model year and verifying it rather than relying on anyone else

.
