**** doesn't come out after pulling out the first 2 connectors. And I can't get my hand behind the console to unplug the other three.

By the way I have the Sirius radio and 6 cd changer. perhaps there is another other connection I need to unplug that is not listed here. I already put everything back so I'll give a try some other time.

radio wasnt working

Ok so i did this diy and it works perfect now but imma post the problem i was having so if anyone else had the issue they can refer to this. i did the soldering and put my radio back in but the lcd radio ac wasnt working. the only thing that worked was the fan. I took it out many times and even checked the plugs for loose wires and connectivity. we went through each wire with pins to see if it was getting a current >:0

so it was the front panel that wasnt getting anything. the connector pins on the back of the panel and where the radio gets slipped back in. those connecters have to connect. lol. sry im high atm. anyway, mine wasnt connecting because of the cd player front panal thingy. heres the post i put on youtube. gl all!

ok nvm i fixed it. it was those connectors to the front panal. i had to remove the cd player panal metal thing with the black stripe. i didnt put it in right and it was making the board crooked so it wouldnt fit in flush. took it out and it solved my problem. WOOT!

Wow I'm shocked this DIY is still getting traffic after all these years.
Can a moderator please edit the first post and change the link to this new URL:
http://www.whatsmyip.org/lib/rx8-aux-ipod-input/
The old URL redirect for now, but it probably won't redirect forever.

Looks like you were browsing my website right when one of the DIMMs in my server decided to die. It's pair has since been pulled and my server has been rock solid since (and was rock solid for years prior). You simply hit the ****-luck lottery.

Did this mod today, works great! I went one step further and pulled apart the whole center console all the way back to the rear seats and drilled a hole into the same compartment as the charger for a cleaner install.

thank you

I'm having some trouble with this mod and i'm hoping someone can help me out here.

So I just picked up a 2007 RX-8 as well as a GROM AUX / Bluetooth module. I've taken out that hidden bolt and taken apart almost everything but i can't seem to pull the head unit out. I followed instructions but it's stuck on the left side somewhere and i can only manage to pull it out about 3 inches. I'm not sure if it makes a difference but my car has Sirius as well as the 6-disk cd changer.

The big problem is that there is a single plug in the back closer to the left side that does not have enough slack. I'm not sure if this is unique to my car but i'm hoping other people have had this issue as well. I'm convinced that it's this particular plug that's causing the problem because i've followed the wire back and it's the only one that seems to be stuck when i tug at the head unit.

I managed to take apart the glove box so i can look through the back and try to pull the single plug out by hand but i've had no luck. I'm not sure even what this plug is since i don't see it in other instructions (other cars have 2 plugs in the back and 1 antenna cable, i think my car has 3 plugs with 1 antenna cable).

I've searched the forum but haven't found anyone else with this problem. Can someone help me out? I've got pictures of the trouble below.

Circled in red is the problem plug

This is the wire that has no slack. This picture is taken from the bottom of the passenger side, just behind / below the glove compartment. I followed the wire through and it leads past the right of the passenger seat (under where the door would close) and towards the back somewhere. I didn't follow it past that.

I can only pull the head unit out this far.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

**UPDATE**

So after some investigation it looks like this plug is for the satellite radio. It looks like the GROM adapter will require this port so i need to either choose the satellite or the AUX / bluetooth module.

Anyone have any tips to get this plug out? Is there a better/easier way to access it rather than going through the glove box?

I have the exact same problem! I can't get my hand or any tools behind the console to unplug that wire. It's really frustrating.

When i look at it closer now in the picture it looks as if it's actually plugged into the extra outlet on the head unit where the GROM module is supposed to plug into. Anyone have any clue what it's controlling?

i screwed it up.

alright so Ive been slaving away today trying to do this hack and ive encountered some problems... First off, Im not sure i have the correct wire for this. Attached is a photo of the cord i bought. Is it the right one? It's stereo not mono. Second, when i put everything back together nothing working! only the fan controls (the ****) and the eject button is working! I'm close to positive i have everything plugged up right, and when putting the radio back together everything fit nicely. What could of i screwed up? I have an 04 with a 6-disk changer. help please.

Kinda confused as to how i would connect my ipod if i did this. If i soldered the aux cable directly to the HU. Could i then plug the aux cable directly to my ipod to play it or do i need to get a belkin ipod adapter and plug the aux into that then play my ipod through that? Also what setting would my Hu need to be on when playin the ipod. Radio or cd?

You should be able to plug your mp3 directly to the aux cord, the adapter is just to charge your ipod basically. you need to have it on cd with a burnt cd in that has silent audio on it (not a blank cd).

so if you do this exactly as described from the link...

1. can you still listen to CDs if you wanted?

2. if you put in a CD with music and play your ipod at the same time do you hear both simultaneously?

^^ But if you turn your iPod volume up, it overtakes the CD volume, so you really only hear your iPod.

Did this install a few months ago worked great for a while, then my cd player stopped working?!

Chuck a cd in and nothing

My brother is an electrician and he did the soldering which he is good at so I don't think that is an issue, what other areas should I look into?

Anyone experienced this problem after the install?

The hidden nut.....

OK I have been hanging upside down for over an hour now and I am CONFUSED. The Mazda Service Notice seems to show a bolt going in sideways perpendicular to the front of the radio. (https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-trouble-shooting-95/tsbs-technical-service-bulletins-183774/ and look for "Dash Center")

I have found a bolt right at the top but at 45 degrees holding a plastic member onto a metal strut - that does not seem to be likely to be the right thing.

Can anyone help

First you see the two nuts - Pic 1
Then you look up -Pic 2
And see a bolt at an angle Pic 3
Is that it Pic 4

I really don't think so as it does not seem to attach to the radio but I can see no other bolt (I am driving a left hand drive (US) 2005. Grateful for any pointers.

Little bump. As I have FAILED to fire up the engine I would at least like to try and install the GROM kit I have. At present it is just finding the bolt holding me back.

Any pointers. My problem is this pic does not seem to tie up with an bolt I can see.

Oh and big tip. Once you pull off the plastic plate under the steering wheel the metal plate comes off straight away. V easy to remove and just wondering if this might be earthing something and stopping the car starting... unlikely but....
