I just painted my wheels in late May. I used matte black on the spokes and gloss on the rim. IMO they look pretty good when they are clean otherwise it's all matte.

Cheers to everyone else that has done this, all of the 8's look great.

thanks for the helpful diy. I painted mine black. i used both duplicolor and rustoleum rim paint. i prefer the rustoleum because of the color and also how the can sprays. sure did take a long time, but it was worth it

if I may bring up a previous question, how well have your wheels held up against mounting and dismounting tires when it comes time to get new rubber? If I do this, I want it to be something that will outlast my liking of it. In other words, I want to get bored of the look or get new wheels or stop caring before they go bad.

I will be taking my time doing this to make sure it's a job well done and clear coat a few times (3 or 4)...

that's if I go through with it

I dont have the answer to this, as I have not had to unmount my tires yet. I am going on a year and a half of them being painted, and the paint has held up great, the only damage I have was my own fault from curb rash. If you do a thorough job they should last.

Mine have been painted for about 4 months now and same deal as Chrishoky, a little curb rash is the only areas that have chipped. I'm going to be getting two new tires sometime in the next month or so. I will report back and let you know how they held up.

i got new tires a couple days after i painted my rims (poor planning) and they got chipped pretty bad by the mechanics. they even tried to sharpie the rims without telling me so that i wouldnt complain. i just sprayed some paint in a cup and went over the parts they messed up. worked great

I can only find a graphite paint and I'd like it darker, so should I use black primer?

Using a black primer will only increase the shade slightly. Why not order the paint you want online?

I've looked for the paint that you used and I can't find it. I have an 04 Nordic Green and I think the graphite/gun metal would go well with it, but I cant find anything dark enough.

You can use duplicolors paint, the one they make for car touch up. I used GM Gunmetal metallic on my roja wheels and they turned out real nice

I painted them thick, I did 1 can on each wheel, then half a can of clear coat on each wheel

Since OEM wheels were never true "chrome." - Flake off that shitty paint and repaint them?

Follow the instructions given on post number 1. Clean, sand, paint, clear. As stated above the 8 never really came with chrome wheels, they were just painted/powder coated that way. Just sand it off and start fresh.
