Series 2 oil flow diagram

I'm getting ready to add the corksport banjo bolt to my series 2 to measure oil temp.

I am looking for an oil flow diagram to confirm which oil cooler fitting is the 1st to get oil from the engine - that is where I want to take temps from because I think it will be hottest / worst case. I've seen a diagram for series 1, but with the oil filter moved to the front of the engine for series 2, I was concerned the flow to the coolers may have been altered as well.

Can anyone direct me to such a flow diagram, or confirm where the oil leaves the engine and enters the coolers?

Thanks,

Andrew

this is good i was going to use the blind plug

Any reason why no one is mounting the pressure sender right next to the temperature sender on the oil cooler?

Legot 02-08-2015 12:11 PM

There's no temperature sender on the oil cooler stock.

LiveWire 02-08-2015 12:18 PM

Sorry to not specify. Both aftermarket senders using the temperature position described in this thread and mounting the pressure sender next to that.

Most aftermarket sensors go on a sandwich style adapter under the oil filter. You can put the sensor there......the banjo bolt thing works well if you don't want to mess with the adapter

LiveWire 02-08-2015 01:23 PM

I have an s2, no the sandwich adapter plate does not fit unfortunately. The banjo bolt beneath the AC compressor is hard to find (I did not see one). It seems the two will fit next to each other, so I'll go ahead and do it and post results.

Rather than putting them both on the same bolt, it might be better to put the temperature sender on the cooler bolt and the pressure on the engine bolt. It would save you the trouble of getting a Tee adapter (if that's what you're thinking?) And there's a modest amount of room on the engine outlet side.

It would also be less likely to shear off the adapter.

^ I believe hes talking about the inlet and outlet bolts on the cooler. There is no reason not to

LiveWire 02-08-2015 06:16 PM

^Correct. All went well with one exception: The oil pressure sender is about half an inch too long to fit there properly. I then freaked out and cut a small hole so it would protrude slightly into the wheel well. I decided that I didn't really like it because it looks a little ghetto and with how low I am it's just asking for trouble, so I think I will buy an elbow adapter so the sender will fit properly.

The same style banjo bolts also attach the hoses to the oil coolers. You have the option of mounting sensors there too.

edit: sorry, you were already doing this and I failed to catch it ....

Yea the mechanical senders (the big bulbous ones) would do that, prosport actually has a digital sender for pressure that iirc only works for the HALO series that is short and would have worked there.

LiveWire 02-10-2015 09:06 AM

Yeah I have the digital series from prosport. However the elbow adapter works beautifully For anyone considering mounting both senders on the oil cooler

G_ man 02-10-2015 12:58 PM

So you just using one oil cooler to for both pressure and temps

Smutterbutter 04-27-2015 10:34 AM

I've got a pair of Corksport banjo bolts ready to go on for oil presure/temp. After reading this, it seems there isn't really a consensus on the "best" place to put them. I was planning to use the oil filter stalk, and front cover locations since they're better protected than by the oil coolers and would leave less wiring/tubing in the engine bay. Any reasons not to do it this way would be appreciated.

Hi,
So is the consensus that its best to use 2 modified bolts,
one for temp and one for pressure?

Has Corksport stopped making these as I cant find them on the site?

Look under rx7 parts

Does anyone know of a place who might still sell these? Shipping at the aforementioned site, for one bolt, is over $18. Corksport doesn't appear to sell these, or much of anything, anymore.

For that price I could buy 6 of them from raceroots and tap them myself though.

RX-Tuner 04-21-2017 11:56 AM

Just sent you an email Greg!

Reoze 04-23-2017 01:07 PM

I ended up grabbing these from RX8Performance. Scott was definitely very helpful and accommodating with the situation. Appreciate the help.

Did the install for my homebrewed digital Arduino gauge. I installed a K-type thermocouple in the banjo bolt between the front cover (under the AC compressor) and the oil cooler for the temp sensor. The pressure transducer went into the banjo bolt near the oil filter.

Both work great but I'm concerned since it seems few people put the temp sensor where I did so I don't can't find comparison data. Did 3 sessions on Autobahn Country Club's north track last Friday and oil temps hit 250°F but my coolant temps maxed out at 212°F (80°-85°F ambient temps, OE water pump, CSF 3164 radiator, foam on driver side and bottom of radiator).
