Looks good. I really like them on darker colors. I'm not sure about my silver, it would blend in.
Side note...I always remove the little plastic cord holding the gas cap. It allows the cap to hang and scratch the car while filling up. Just make sure you don't leave it at the pump.

I looked at the satin finish at the Rosenthal web site and that one appears to have a hinge molded into the cover that I did not see on the chrome.
Is this right or is it a crap shoot as to which design you get?

I installed the chrome fuel door last night on a tit grey. I will post pics this evening when I get home.
I am having one problem though; before I close the fuel door all seems centered, but when I actually close the door, it pulls the door to the right. I haven't figured out how to correct this. Any suggestions.

Sounds like you need to realign the latch though. Can't wait for the pics.

as i said in the PM to you.. the latch mech on the car is adjustable.. you can loosin the nust holding the pop mech and fove it around a little.. also make sure the hing side is flush witht he surface of the fender before you tighten the screws....
After that you can also bend out the tab on the fuel door to help push it back... But I did not have to do this. I think u need to adjust the door mech on the car first..
let me know how this works

I wonder how hard it would be to make a cover for the original fuel door out of sheet aluminum with the hinge detail on it and attach it with double stick tape or rivits or screws. Just need to make it thin enough to wrap arount the edge of the original for the full look and may have to adjust the original inward to allow for the thickness.
Just a thought.

sounds to me like it wouldn't be worth the time considering such an inexpensive mod. If it didn't look right, you could end up screwing up the finnish on the original cap, you end up buying the new one anyway.

you can most deffanlty fix that .. it will have a smaller gap however on the no hinghed side.. thats just the way it has to be to clear the hinged side.

Sounds like you enjoy doing the work. Me, I get frustrated easily, I like doing the installs, I even do pretty well at designing, but when it comes to the actual fabrication, I'd rather leave it to the professionals. Of course as you like building, I can see where the attraction is. I don't have that kind of confidence in my craftsmanship. But hey, if you decide to do it I'd like to see some pics so I can see how it turns out

Looks great and thanks for the pics/DYI.
2 days ago I installed the fender strakes on my silver 8 and they look incredible. What a great mod for the money. I bought them from Rosenthal Mazda for an unbeatable price. They really make the car look even more sporty (if that is possible.)
I am seriously considering doing the fuel door mod but am unsure what finish to get. Rosenthal Mazda's website says you can get chrome or pearl satin finishes but I am having a hard time deciding. I have zero chrome on the car now so I think the pearl satin would look better.
What do you guys think? Does anyone have any pics of a silver 8 with the gas lid mod?

What does this mean?
I'm having the same problem as PHA RX-8: my fuel door is off-center. I spent an hour yesterday trying to make it straight...

you guys are not adjustiing the door right.
First loosen all the screws that hold it on.. when there loose enough to move when pushed close the door up and slide it around where you want it. the pop open the door and tighten the screws. Then you will need to loosen the latch on the car. ITs the nut that goes around the pop out device that opes the door. You will need to loosen the nut that holds that latch and push the whole thing up and in . Then tighten it . This will make the door sit where it is supposed to when closed.
IT will take a few tries to get it right.

I pulled this old thread up on a search today, since I'm considering finally putting on the chrome gas door. I don't see any photos!!! I know they were posted originally and that the entire thread was later moved into the DIY forum. Can someone help me get the originals back or provide photos of their installation??
Thanks in advance, guys.
