Double sided tape/ custom license plate bracket/ transponder

Next I attempted to drill into the bumper. Don't even try I spent five minutes with a Dremel and brand new bit. Barely made a dent, that bumper is hard.

Very quickly I thougth of using Nylon zip ties heavy duty ones.

I peeled the tape and placed the bracket spacer down. Zip tied it in the middle.

Next I cut some double sided tape to the transponder bracket. Zip tied each side to the bumper on top of the spacer bracket. Each used three zip ties together in order to reach around the bumper. Of course before tightening down the zip ties make sure the transponders are mounted level both right to left and front to back (using the little level that came with the Blinder and a small level if you have one for left to right).

The measurement from the bumper to the front of the transponder should be 3 inches in order to get the transponder flush with the grille.

I should also mention that I have the RB Ram air duct so the plastic tray and vfad from the intake aren't there anymore. You may have to move these in order to attach the zip ties and then reinstall. It has been awhile since I did the RB duct.

I did take the styrafoam piece off of the bumper but wish I had not. It was a PITA getting it back on because the zip ties like to take the shortest path when tight which means if you take it off expect to cut some grooves if you tighten the zip ties before reinstalling it.

Finished product transponders in grille

Finished product.

It took some time for me but the second one went on much quicker.

I should mention the grille was silver before I painted it. I liked the silver a little better but the black makes the transponders really hard to see.

i got a quesiton.... say you have this and a radar detector.. how do you power them both up? ive been searching through DIY of the blinder and V1 and the both use the same fuse spot... so for those with both how do you power it up? is it really hard to install? (just bought the blinder) well im not worried about installing the unit as im good with that type of stuff but in the electrical field im soo lost, from pictures i feel it shouldnt be too hard but i get lost in the terminalogy...

with add a fuse the electrical stuff is virtually plug and play

you use add a fuse...take out the current fuse and put it in to the add a fuse holder (which already houses another fuse of your choise...5 amp is all you need). THen the cable coming out of that hook two power wires to it...one for your radar detector and one for the blinder

then ground them to any chassis bolt (there is a pick of one in the DIY)

did you download the PDF on the first page? also read what '4yrs to supercharge' added in this thread, his way is even better than mine for the mounting stuff

A switch comes with the Blinder.

We just didn't get into that since we were thinking about doing something custom.

I might be a bit late to this thread, but I got lost on the wiring part instructions by truemaggellan:
We remove the passenger side Scuff plate and get the wires through the firewall right ?.
Next instruction shows the wires at the fuse box on the drivers side - did I miss a page? but how do you get the wires from the passenger side scuff plate area to the drivers side fuse box ??
I might be a bit dumb, but what is the point of removing the scuff plate.
Can someone clear this up for me please - Thanks

About the switch location etc - what I have in mind is not to have a manual switch at all, but use a solid state timer chip that actives from the buzzer power.
Buzzer fires; timer starts; 2 seconds later solid state switch mimicks hand switch = power off; 5 minutes later solid state timer mimicks power switch on.
Will need to mess with timers, but this should not take long and probably one setting will be suitable for all situations.
Anyone see a problem with this idea ??

Hi Sinsadir,

Mazdaparts.com recently redid their website and the file changed locations. You can find it here:

Thanks for posting the new location Truemagellen!

This reminds me I should do an updated install for the Mazdaspeed front bumper.

I have a fresh center panel that the Blinder will be mounted in.

Ultimately I would like to add a waterproof disconnect for the two transponders up front. To make swapping between winter and summer bumpers easier.

We'll talk offline about MNRX8club possibilities.
