a typhoon costs that much! the RB has a complete airbox plus a filter designed especially for it. a lot more time was spent on this design. The RB will probably be $300. i sent an email off to jim langer so ill let you know.

I talked to Jim Langer today. He said they had run into some "bumps" in trying to get some of the smaller parts fabricated, but they were finally making some progress. But then he finished by saying he had no solid ETA to pass along.

Im guessing that you guys arewaiting for this intake b/c its actually supposed to have an effect on performance UNLIKE the current intakes which onlygive you a louder noise. Am I right about thisor will this one be just like the rest? Also isit going to be as loud?

Even if Racing Beat's intake gives no more than about 4 hp, that is still no more or less power than ANYONE else's intake out there. Racing Beat's is fully enclosed from engine bay heat, not just shielded. It's intake pipe is designed properly unlike several others out there. The complete box assembly will also make it much quieter than anyone else's. What's not to like about it? This is one nice intake system. Everyone else is just a cone on a stick.

Can someone explain the large number of people dying for an aftermarket intake? I can understand if you want the K&N for sound, because that's about all you get .. but if the intake makes no more sound than stock, what's the point? I went with the green filter drop in, but these threads make me wonder if I'm missing something.

The RB intake will probably make a bit more sound than stock, but not so much as to be objectionable. It WILL give more hp which is always welcome; even if it's only 3 or 4. When you add it together with other mods, the increases do start to add up. A few extra hp here, a few there, and at some point those "few" start to make a noticable difference in performance. I'm buying an RB intake as SOON as it's available. Combined with the RB exhaust which I already have, it should sound very good. And I gain 6 or 7 hp too which is always welcome.

The quality is very high on the Racing Beat intake. It looks great. The inside surfaces are very smooth and there are nice radiuses on everything. There are no sharp bends anywhere inside that would hurt airflow.

While it does use a cone style filter, it isn't the same type that everyone else is using. RB's is big. It has a nice large internal area that lets the air straighten out after passing through the filter element. Standard cone filters are very small inside and have a sharp edge transition to the intake. The standard K&N filters are also very large but the rest of the system is designed terrible.

They are not done dyno testing yet. So far they have shown about 4 hp or so gain from it. However they are adding a cold air intake to it that at higher speeds may add a couple of more horsepower. Others have claimed that a cold air intake or ram air will not work on this car. That is simply not true. It just won't work the way's that have been tried so far. The key with a smooth idle and good running is the ntake pipe after the filter. The inlet pipe on Racing Beat's system is before the filter. This means it will not affect the maf or make the car run rough. It's going to easily be the best system out there. Everyone else so far has just made an intake pipe, put a cone on the end of it, maybe made a shied around it, and then just dyno'd it to get some numbers. This system is different. Rahter than using the dyno to verify numbers, this piece is the RESULT of dyno testing. That is what makes a truly great product. At the same time, it needs to have the sound they want. They are looking for a little more agressive sound than stock but it has to be a more mature tone that better reflects the more mature middle aged owners rather than the kids who just want it loud. This car wasn't designed for them and the aftermarket shouldn't be either.

I don't think any of the aftermarket intakes made 4 hp. I think a few might have made 4 hp at 8000 rpm, but other than that nothing anyone has made has been designed well. This one really looks great and I am glad that there were some people not out to make a quick buck on a crappy product. Thank you Racing Beat.

Edit:
Rotarygod you changed your avatar, and now I don't even remember what the old one has or if you even had one. Haha, I need to sleep. Good night all.

Good things come to those who wait..... knowing RB, we are in for the most comprehensive, most developed and engineered intake system released thus far.

I firmly believe it will not be glaringly proficient in any one particular area (ie noise. performance, etc) but will be the best combination (compromise?) of all facets.

Very similar concept to the design of our 8, wouldn't you agree?

Even after seeing the RB intake @ 7stock I don't think I would get it.
It's a very nice unit and looks stock (which I like) but IIRC it gets rid of the VFAD.
The engineers put the VFAD in place for a reason, so I think I'll keep the stock unit in.

BTW: RB is thinking of marketing this intake in the $300-$350 range when I asked them at 7stock.

Can we get on a waiting list? Similar to the RB exhaust waiting list when it first came out?
