If your going to be putting a nice amount of load on the electrical system or you live in a place where its hot and you NEED as much A/C as possible...go with the unorthodox as its less underdriven...

I have the agency and dont plan on throwing in a mega-sound system...I also live in texas and it gets hot...but I have found that the A/C is still plenty cold...I'm rockin the Agency and lovin it...

Hello,

[flame suit]
Can someone comment whether there any adverse effects of combining the AP crank pulley with the 2 other Unorthodox accessory pullies.
[/flame suit]

Thanks!
Edgardo

I wouldnt imagine that there would be any other than the cost. The other pulleys in the orth kit are not underdriving anything and are simply lighter and blingy...

oh there is one adverse effect...cost of both sets...

Finding a belt that fits would be an issue.

I know the Unorthodox kit requires two Napa Autopart belts...this was the only place I could find both belts. The size is the smallest Napa belt available, and the other belt companies don't have any that are the same size.

Which belt does the Agency Power come with/require?

Looks like you get about 9% more out of the Agency Power setup. I would assume that the weight savings would be more with the Unorthodox set, as you get three lightened wheels instead of just one (w/the agency power). If you are looking for the best, I think TeamRX8 has a system that completely deletes the AC side of the system. This greatly decreases weight. I'm not sure of the %underdrive with his setup, but from what i recall, it was more than the Agency power.

The AP comes with the 2 belts- skinny one (Alternator) is a Gates Micro-V AT K040292. The AC belt is a Gates Micro-V AT K050316

If you want to change your AC and Alt pulley, get the GReddy pulley kit because it only comes with those pulleys (no crank pulley), and isn't underdriven, and is only $120. Better cost effective option....

Gates sounds familiar....I'll have to pull my installation instructions from the UR set....maybe they do use the same belts.

FWIW, I think the underdriven portion is more important than weight reduction....The Greddy seem like just bling factor.

Oh I agree 100%- you might save 1/2 a pound AT MOST and they aren't underdriven, just bling.

Pulleys are not like flywheels.. Weight reduction of the pulleys gains you exactly 0.squat (that's "zero point squat")... Not only are they really light to begin with, their diameter is much smaller than, say, a flywheel, so there is not much moment of inertia to be lost...

As for deleting the AC side... There's got to be some sort of clutch there for when the A/C is not in use, right? I wouldn't think this would gain you that much...

In addition to deleting the AC on the crank....Team also removed all the AC components, for true weight reduction. He had different reasons for doing this, as is not using his 8 as a daily driver...full race prep.

Ok that makes sense, and is also pretty hardcore. I like my A/C in the summer...

How do you figure less rotating mass doesn't equal more horsepower? It's less weight for the engine to turn= less work. It's rotating mass. And roughly every 1-lbs less can equal 1-hp.
And a flywheel on an RX8 doesn't exactly gain you a boat-load of more power, either. But it does (like the pulleys) make your engine rev faster, because there is less rotating mass- so you can transfer your power quicker.

As it turns out, the greddy pulley kit DOES underdrive the water pump, but only the water pump.

Oh really- didn't know that. I wouldn't want to underdrive my water pump- especially in AZ. The minimal HP gains aren't worth it

cheaper one means agency power pulley... no point in spending so much money for a mod which provide a minimal gain. the ap pulley is more underdriven than the unorthodox pulleys anyways... if you get the ap pulley which cost $140 and dun feel much difference from stock, atleast you didnt blow $250 on the unorthodox and get the same result.

I have the Unorthodox pulleys and like how they look and can feel a difference above 4 thousand RPMs.

As to the comment about not underdriving the water pump, if a person uses the car for any tracking at high RPMs the water pump can cause cavitation which causes bubbles in the coolant, losing cooling efficiency, so underdriving the water pump can actually benefit the cooling system.

The largest amount of weight savings between the UR pulleys and the stock ones was the alternator pulley. I think the stock alternator pulley weighed more than the UR main pulley.

What if you used 2 kits

AP for the Eccentric shaft pulley
and
GREDDY for the water pump and alternator pullies

Still would be the same total price as the UR kit

The two brands aren't created to work specifically with each other like the UR set.

I went with Unorthodox because they have been building underdrive pulleys for quite some time. I'm almost certain that all the pulleys were smaller than the stock pulleys.

If the Greddy is the same size as stock then there shouldn't be a problem with the Agency, but it has not been said if they are.

The Greddy's are apparently the same size as stock just lighter. Is there any official/unofficial weight of the unorthodox pullies? There isn't any weight info in the pullies, pullies, pullies thread

I got UR pulley, just curious if I change for AP, will I feel differences. AP claims 9hp, don't know how many hp we got from UR. Any1 knows??
