to my knoweldge the unichip works on the 8, and their newer version is meant to be better with it, as the old one wasnt so good, but they found that just putting it on an NA with no mods made very little diference.
With an intake and exhaust system they got a few extra hp, but not much either.
Dont quote me on any of this. 8)

I have it and it gives a nice little boost. But the only reason I picked it was that I got a great deal on it. But I also have RP CAI , RP CATback, and Exedy stage 2 clutch and flywheel, as well as a AP pulley. I'm getting close to make the leap forward to either supercharge or turbo. And the ECM is one of the last changes to get a few more horses. I would of like to get the AP (AccessPort) but I have to save up heard alot of good things about.

There is a working version, Unichip Q Plus.
I know its work because I have seen it in a RX-8 last weekend, performance figures from rototest looked good so I have signed up for it.

Fact is i have the Unichip Q plus piggy back on my RX-8 and have driven it for about 3000 km with no issues what so ever. I was on a mini course at TS Motorsport in Sweden and it was installed in 10 min with 5 cables to wire and solder. Started right and and of course i had the car on a rolling road a Dyno dynamics. The stock ECU was way rich as expexted with lambda readings of 0.74-0.76 at full throttle.Leaned it out in the midrange (cruise) to 0.90-0.95 and then leaned it to 0.89-0.91 and gave it full throttle with a top hp gain of 12 rwhp@8600 rpm. I also add some more timing with the Unichip box which controls fuel and timing with 2 *****. My mileage now is alittle better at 1.1litre/10km speeding at 120 km/h on highway. So far i think this is a good piggyback product that works. I had 2 Piggybacks before but this is the far best.

Apparently ownership of an RX-8 is synonymous with sophisticated taste in cars, and perhaps sophisticated tastes in general. As in beer vs. wine.
Many generalize, probably wrongly, that redneck is synonymous with unsophisticated taste in cars.
So given this, many in here are offended that a redneck would purchase an RX-8. So offended that they'll internalize this and begin engaging in self deprecation.
You can restore their faith in the their definition of sophistication by changing your nickname or buying a Camaro.
Just in case you think this is a slam on you. Read it again, and you should conclude it's a slam on them.
What cars you like have little to do with sophistication.
And the "rednecks" who drive F-Bodies and post on LS1Tech.com appear to know more about the technical details on cars than the average person posting here.
You decide which is more "sophisticated". Actually working on them like rednecks and blue collar types, or watching Jeremy Clarkson.
I must say though, the smoky tire burnout on an RX-8 is a bit silly. Don't do that (if stock) to challenge a V6 Camry. You'll likely loose the challenge, unless of course you're willing to drop the clutch at 7500RPM. lol. That is just unsophisticated.

Maybe he'll get this in an email and come back, but I doubt it.
