I have the SR Motorsports units. Very little difference in performance, and made my idle rougher. Had a CEL for a couple of days afterwards, but it went away. Not much difference in hp with either unit (I don't believe either claims of 8-12 hp). Do yourself a favor, get a used Canzoomer unit & tune it. You are better off getting gains from there. Or a midpipe & O2 fooler.

Sr claims the gains from their project rx-8 so it's kinda of misleading because stock rx8 will not get the same gain as an project car which has many more performance parts on it.

according to this thread there is good results in replaceing the pulleys. He also replaced the midpipe also but so am I.Im just wondering if there is a diffrence in these 2 pulleys sets that will make one better then the other besides the fact that the SRs look much cooler.

Looks like you are shopping another item that I am. (I read your midpipe thread.) There is also a forum member down in Florida that started a lightened pulley project, cortc. You might also wait to see if he ever gets it going again. It really is hard to swallow the SR prices, so Unorthodox looks good there, but I think cortc will be making his out of titanium, so they might even look and perform better.

You could do this in your garage with simple hand tools. There is a review of the Unorthodox Pullies in RXTuner that said the hardest part was the single alternator bolt. They needed a long breaker bar to get it off. You might also need to remove the airbox to have more room to work.

Sounds like fun,I cant wait.I would also guess that we dont have to worry about turning any of the pulleys without the belt on and messing up the timing or stuff like that with this motor because of no cam shaft and cranck?

That was theoretical 10 hp gain. I really like my SR Motorsports hi-flow cat (w/ resonator) it is a quality piece, and a ton lighter than the stock cat & resonator. The underdrive pullies though I really am not a fan of (& I have them), even though they are very well made. I did a dyno a ways back & the gains are no where close to what they claim. This is a company that has claimed that they get 30-40 hp from air intake, pullies, hi-flow cat & cat back exhaust. This has proven to be bunk by many posters on this board who have done the dynos (myself included). If you are going to drop money on a set of pullies then you might as well do the UR set (less $$). Be careful though as on pretty much all sets that I heard it roughens up idle a bit & some have extended CEL.

Agreed - I think I will wait for cortc to finish the lightened titanium ones with no underdrive.

I think I read in another thread that Cortc will not be making the pullies out of Ti but rather Aluminum with Ti bolts.

I'm pretty sure one of the reasons for the difference in price is that the SR motorsports pullies do not require you to remove the crank shaft hub, while the Unorthodox Racing pullies do require that removal. From what I've heard from friends working on the same thing, its not exactly an easy thing to do. Due to what I've heard from others about the roughness of the idle after pullies i decided not to get pullies until something new comes out that claims to fix this.
Hope that helps,
Ryan
