Foam is packing material as mentioned early in the thread. Sorry about the pics. I'll have to dig them back up. I think I have them on garx8club.com.

The foam packing material came out when I unpacked the intake. No, it was not in during the dyno.

Thanks. I appreciate you answering the question. The reason I'm interested is because I stumbled on this thread after ordering a Injen intake. I may be selling it and getting the REVi now.
|
You should stick to the factory air box (with internal baffles removed) and just use the RB cold air duct. Make sure you fabricate a good coupler.
I have the RB intake + the duct and that's what I'd do now. |
The car came with a K&N intake on it. I was going to get a stock box and mod it like that but enjoyed the way to Injen looked so I ordered it. Not looking for more power really. I like th tone of the K&N just not the high pitched wail north of 7000rpm. From what I've heard the Injen is more tame by comparison and I found a great deal on a new one which is why I jumped on it. I may dyno the K&N and Injen back to back and see if there is a difference......but I'm also lazy.

Is there a proven dyno gain from doing that, just using the RB Cold Air Duct, with the stock airbox? And, for the dynos done between the Injen and the RB, was the RB Cold Air Duct used on both? Edit: Found all the stuff dealing with the stock airbox. Yay for searching and getting sidetracked so it takes longer than it should. Stupid search option coming up with other threads I want to read along the way... |
Negligible, if any, gains with either.
|
I can imagine, most of the intakes for my previous car actually lost power over stock, go figure. They let the intake droop because they wouldn't provide support for them, and when it'd droop with the VAF, the VAF would actually move forward a bit from it's weight, the cone inside that is, and think the engine was under less load, thus, less horsepower.
Hell, if I get an intake, it's just for engine bay dress up, I take "gains" with a grain of salt or two. I'm just curious about those things to see if it was any actual difference or not. |

I installed the Injen intake and was definitly pleased with the asthetics of it. I noticed that when the auxilary ports open the car had a smooth surge of power with the K&N, but with the Injen the car kind of "snaps" forward more violently in 1st and 2nd gear.
I will stick with it for a bit as the car feels good right now. If I get the time I'll strap it to a dyno. I can't argue against your dyno, numbers don't lie. But my car feels better with the Injen than it did with the K&N. So either my car likes the Injen better than yours did or the K&N was just killing my powerband. Eitherway the car is more fun to drive with the Injen so it wins out for me. If I'm not happy with my dyno when I finally do it I may spring for the REVi, it's cheap enough. |
I look forward to your dyno. I'd like for someone else to run a session like I did, comparing it to another but that requires you have one ready to go for hook up because you need to run it that same dyno session.
After I installed my injen felt more responsive also. I think there's something about the placebo effect. But anyway, I like the testing to see how other cars respond. Hope you can make it a comparison run also. Do you have a friend with a RB intake you could swap out with there at the Dyno session? |
No, no one local. The only 8 owner I talk to around me has a K&N.

Live!!!!
Bam just brought this post back to life!
this might b a noobie question though. 1st i installed the injen intake myself weeks ago i diddnt notice much if any gains 2nd installed a greddy cat back exhaust and the car sounds great with both. 3rd and most important!!! will installing racinq beat cold air duct help even more???? with the injen in take??? or does it have to b with the RB intake system???? or is there a better duct system out now?? THANKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
^if its not the MS(/AEM) or RB with duct then you lose power

the reason why a lot of us jump on this like we do is that we have all seen these kinds of claims for a new product so many times before .
This is how it usually goes : *new product comes out claiming 20hp gains *a few buy it and come on here with there opinions *"wow my butt dyno tells me i'm way quicker now bros and my throttle response is amazing" *A whole lot more people jump on the band wagon and buy the product *Many months later someone actually does a dyno and it shows practically no gain *"Oh well it still looks good and I still got that awesome throttle response" * a year or so later everyone who bought it realises they got duped but just keep quiet about it *Another year goes by and they have got over it and now rip into the product about what a pos it is *a new product comes out claiming 20hp gains and the cycle begins again we're all just a bunch of sheep really

HP = 189.5, TQ = 139.2: Red - Injen HP = 197.6, TQ = 138.8: Blue - Racing Beat You can see that there is a difference on the top end. One thing you can tell for sure, there is no difference AT ALL below 7200 RPM. There is definitely some splinin' to do from Injen Technology. So, in the end, the way I see it, you loose power and torque after the second port opens with the injen. Now, what am I going to do? I'm not sure right now but I think I will be putting the RB back on simply because I track my car and I need all the power I can get. If I did not track my car I would probably stay with the Injen because I REALLY like the sound. Sometimes, sound matters. In this case I need the power from 7500 that you loose with this intake. I just don't understand how a company can claim their gains without proof. I also would like an explanition from them on how they came up with those numbers. Until now, we have had no proof one way or the other but this test was witnessed by a group. 2 runs with the Injen 15-20 min. approx between 2 runs with the RacingBeat 5th gear pull to rev-limiter The chart shows the best run from each intake. Each intake produced basically the same graph both runs. Notes: A. Injen Intake / B. RacingBeat Intake Gutted RotaryPerformance SuperCat RB Catback ACT Prolite flywheel New plugs New RacingBeat wires New coils Thanks guys for being patient.
