HP = 189.5, TQ = 139.2: Red - Injen HP = 197.6, TQ = 138.8: Blue - Racing Beat You can see that there is a difference on the top end. One thing you can tell for sure, there is no difference AT ALL below 7200 RPM. There is definitely some splinin' to do from Injen Technology. So, in the end, the way I see it, you loose power and torque after the second port opens with the injen. Now, what am I going to do? I'm not sure right now but I think I will be putting the RB back on simply because I track my car and I need all the power I can get. If I did not track my car I would probably stay with the Injen because I REALLY like the sound. Sometimes, sound matters. In this case I need the power from 7500 that you loose with this intake. I just don't understand how a company can claim their gains without proof. I also would like an explanition from them on how they came up with those numbers. Until now, we have had no proof one way or the other but this test was witnessed by a group. 2 runs with the Injen 15-20 min. approx between 2 runs with the RacingBeat 5th gear pull to rev-limiter The chart shows the best run from each intake. Each intake produced basically the same graph both runs. Notes: A. Injen Intake / B. RacingBeat Intake Gutted RotaryPerformance SuperCat RB Catback ACT Prolite flywheel New plugs New RacingBeat wires New coils Thanks guys for being patient. |

So... if anyone feels like contributing, I will not turn it down! I may have saved some of you guys a lot of money. :) |
just so we're clear, you did the runs on the same day?
|
8 peak hp over the 5-6hp gain of the RB intake isn't all that shabby

ooops looked at it wrong... yea its the sux0r

In the for-what-it's-worth column and a side note to this. All 4 of my run charts today were smooth as silk as you can see above. A testament to new plugs, wires and coils. Others that ran today that hadn't changed in quite a while looked really erratic on the high end. Charlie (marietta 8) amazes me with his "stock" 8... 201 or something like that. He has run a 204 before. He only has a RB intake and catback.
I have video and will post some clips later. We had a miata with a LS1 join us. it was one sweet ride! |
great job there Silver 8 .
now - what was I saying earlier ...... |

wow.. that dyno speaks for itself.
nearly 10 horses lost between 2 aftermarket intakes.. in terms of the rx8 we know 10 horses is BIG. impressive dyno overall silvereight, especially with the standard cat/intake combo. al |
its the horn and the size of the maf pipe that makes the difference with the RB intake.
Very good job Don--very good indeed. Would haveloved to see that ls1 miata with the flying miata package--cadialac axles! OD |
Just wanted to bump this to ask other long term Injen intake owners a question...do you folks notice a big lag in the initial throttle response when you try to floor the car? I've had mine for a month now, and initially I didn't feel this lag upon switching from the stock intake. However as the weeks went on, the ECU seems to have settled into a state where there is a noticeable delay of at least one second in the throttle response before the car starts to pull. This happens when I try to give moderately more gas from a stop, maybe about half the pedal's travel, and also when I try a downshift and try to floor it. The intake will roar up but it takes about a second before I suddenly start to feel the kick in the rear end.
On another note...the Injen intake seriously needed to have come with small clamps for those three vacuum hoses in the back. I had a definite problem with the topmost hose trying to slip off. Getting small clamps for each hose solved that problem and provides much more peace of mind. |
my top hose kept coming off to so I just got a black zip tie haha, but no I never felt a lag in the power.
|
Nice bump, I haven't read this before, Think i might get the revi aird duct.

Props to SilverEIGHT for some great dyno data! I've been eyeing the Racing Beat intake for a while but I had $445 store credit at Assaultech.com and they don't sell Racing Beat products. (Ex girlfriend bought me an item not yet available but we have since broken up sooo...I just took a store credit! =X) So I opted for the Injen intake unit and a GReddy rear strut tower brace to go along with my front one. Plus they had a special going on with Injen products sooo, I figured what the heck. Thanks for the hard work, though! This thread will help a lot of people, I think.

Thanks guys, glad I can be of service.

the reason why a lot of us jump on this like we do is that we have all seen these kinds of claims for a new product so many times before .
This is how it usually goes : *new product comes out claiming 20hp gains *a few buy it and come on here with there opinions *"wow my butt dyno tells me i'm way quicker now bros and my throttle response is amazing" *A whole lot more people jump on the band wagon and buy the product *Many months later someone actually does a dyno and it shows practically no gain *"Oh well it still looks good and I still got that awesome throttle response" * a year or so later everyone who bought it realises they got duped but just keep quiet about it *Another year goes by and they have got over it and now rip into the product about what a pos it is *a new product comes out claiming 20hp gains and the cycle begins again we're all just a bunch of sheep really Love this post Brett

Did either of you read this thread and see the 10HP loss on the dyno? |
gotta luv an intake that sucks and blows simultaneously ...
|
Hate to bring this back from the dead, but I have a question.
When you dyno'd the Injen, did you leave the foam piece in the tube? Seems to me that since that's obviously some integral piece of their design, having it plugged would skew the result. Just a question. :) I see a few pages back you posted a picture of your tube but it no longer works. |
Foam is packing material as mentioned early in the thread. Sorry about the pics. I'll have to dig them back up. I think I have them on garx8club.com.
