Okay so I can't do a big search because I'm in class but here is my question,

This afternoon I'm installing my turboxs exhaust + racepipe. Does will the race pipe cause me to throw a CEL? O2 simluator? What's the deal here?

Thanks a **** ton guys

It will PROBABLY throw a CEL. Some cars have not had this problem. You just have to go for it and see what happens...

blah but is there anyway to stop it?

Will resetting the ECU with the brake or odometer methods work on getting it to go away?

The CEL I know will just frustrate me haha and I dont want to have to use black tape :D

Not trying to be a jerk...but how did you purchase a part that is in all statistical probability going to cause a CEL when clearly you don't want to deal with it? Did you not research before you purchased the product?

So I guess I should call TurboXS and request a free midpipe? Why didn't I think of that years ago...

edit: nevermind.

If you don't want the CEL, maybe just sell your midpipe and put that money towards a high flow cat...which won't cause a CEL.

you don't think it is figured in the price?

and even at that, it doesn't stop you from doing the research to know what you can expect from putting the part on your car.

I can't think of a time when i have or would put a part on my car not having a very good idea of what to expect from it.

Cheapest cat back except hi flow hks and the race pipe is sold seperately for 150, whole deal for 500 or so? Jesus the point here is its a good deal and if it sits in my garage instead of going on the car makes no difference to me.

For the first ~50mi or so of my hks hi-power + race pipe I had no CEL but after getting the car to run rich it finally threw it. If you have high grade fuel and drive with low RPMs I'm pretty sure it will come off though (peak efficiency of engine). I had a dead CAT that did this and it seemed to correspond with quality of gasoline + how hard I drove the car. BTW, one word - loud.

^^^ Let's say it just a daily drive i fill it up with 93 and put the mid-pipe on it will the it hurt the car in the long run or is the CEL on the dash just showing due to the cat not being there??

just shows the cat isn't there.

The real downside is that you won't know about any other CEls being thrown by the car.

Yup, if the CEL is solid on, however, its most likely in the breathing system. (Essentially) Just showing the lack of cat converter (the o2 sensor just behind where that cat would be). Not harmful at all. Usually a solid CEL is from the breathing system in the rx8 anyways (Mass Air Flow, o2, etc) so as long as there's no blink you should be good. Hm, daily driving w/93 octane pretty sure my car's light would go off but the problem is all cars run slightly differently (slight differences in the engine parts) and thus its kind of difficult to predict. Giving it a try is the only advice I can give. The light is also likely to come off if the car has time to sit for a few days, at least this was my experience with a gutted cat...

i have a code reader/eraser and whenever the ol' slow o2 respone cel comes up( i think its p0139) i just erase the code again, it usally comes back on in 100-200 miles, but if i drive hard for a couple minutes it comes on always, the code readers are at pepboys(actron) and do work on the 8 and will temp remove the check engine light....there about 70 bucks

No, you can't make it go away permanently. Even if you reset it, usually within a few miles the ECU will detect you don't have a cat & throw the CEL up again. One of the things that you have to live with when you take your cat off. That and it being obscenly loud (welcome Mr. po-po), and it might cause a nauseous smell in your cabin from the fuel fumes.

To tell you the honest truth i was only thinking of getting the mid-pipe just because of the flames and the cool factor that's about it..when you think about it you as the driver are in the car and the only person that might see the flames are the people behind you...for now im gonna buy the HKS hi-power and just run it with the stock cat...might get the super cat later on..and about the cops^^^ your correct when i use to drive my old Integra down 2 the beach i had a full custom 2.5" exhaust with a mid-pipe and i would have to drive it as soft as i could down by the beach...miami beach cops are total ********* especially when there hear anything that is 2 loud.
