I have a borla, and the exhaust isn't centered properly. The right exhaust tip sits about a half inch from the shroud (left tip is fine), and I can tell the exhaust shroud is starting to take fire damage... I definately would not want recessed tips...

Fire can be had with a turbo as mysql101 says.
Turboed exhaust gets hotter due to the amount of energy that is being produced, the byproduct is more heat >> exhaust tips get up to ignition temperatures and any excess fuel that gets some oxygen lights up. A common misconception is that the flames happen on full throttle, it is actually the opposite. |
For $499 you just cant beat it. If it costs me $30 to have the tips extended(well the pipe before the tips), the way I look at it, I am still ahead. I am not into those big ricey tips anyway....More of a sleeper look, more performance oriented works for me
Just my opinion. |

In my case, it's not just closer, but because at the slight angle it's also more recessed on that side. The flames aren't like out of a jet engine, they can billow in a large roundish blue ball ....
Mine's tuned, I don't have any flames at shifts, but when decelerating it does pop once in a while because the int-x idles rich. The damage I have most likely came from when I had the emu + bov, it was non stop fireworks. I wanted a new rear bumper anyway. |
I just got back from picking mine up. The size of the tips are just what I wanted, I guess we will see how it fits after work tonight, I will report back..
|
The tips fit the hole in the bumper really good. It is extremely loud, and I can verify that it shoots pretty big flames on the shift from 1-2 and 2-3(had a friend drive my car) It looks awesome...Hopefully it quiets down after a few weeks. Also my cel came on after about 20 miles.

Has any one successfully removed the silencers after prolonged use? Mine are stuck in the exhaust.
|
mine came out, i kept them in for a few weeks after i first got it. mine also dont fit perfect. mine required a bit of tugging and twisting. like getting ur finger out of a coke bottle.
|
Do they quiet down the exhaust a noticible amount?
|
I ran my car hot, then got out and tossed water on the silencers, making them contract.
Then i took pliers, and ripped them the hell out! |

Take a rubber mallet and bang them a little in and clean up the packing (This is what was keeping mine from coming out), then take some plyers and pull at various spots in a clock wise motion. |
Just wanted to let you guys know we are still doing this blazing deal. We have a few race pipes left.

Melted Rear Bumper?
Last Saturday the 27th was my first track day this year and the first track day with all the mods as in my sig. I had removed the tip silencers a couple of months ago and under normal driving have had no problems. After the track day I noticed my left side rear bumper had started to melt/distort and discolor from the exhaust heat, http://i510.photobucket.com/albums/s...rntShrouds.jpg
Now new tips fitted as in photo above, picture taken before I replaced the damaged shrouds. The right side is only slightly discolored but not melted or distorted. I will certainly recommend that the tips be extended at least 3inches longer so as to avoid this issue. |
Damn, no offense, but that looks awful. :(
I totally agree with you, those tips should be longer. |
Are you running with a cat still? Mine melted the bumper exactly like that until I deleted the cat. I guess the cat was just keeping too much heat, because after I removed it, my egt dropped like 30degrees
|
I put the stock CAT back because of the noise level, too loud for my liking, but OK for the track etc.. I will extend the tips before removing the stock CAT. Interesting that the temps drop without the CAT. In future I may temporarily replace the CAT on track days.

I have had my TurboXS installed for just over a week now and I couldn't be more pleased. It was extremely loud when you got on the throttle so I put the silencers in and it is perfect. It is very liveable day to day but when I really stomp on the throttle it still sounds amazing. Going through a tunnel with the windows open and the throttle pegged is an amazing experience :D: The butt dyno detects some good power gains as well... the car breaks the tires out in places she never used to :naughty:
|
|
I ordered mine last week and hope to have it installed by this week if all goes well
Question: If its "too loud" (im turbo charged, so maybe not soo loud) I read a post on somebody who put a silencer.... Wouldnt that defeat the purpose of it being a 3" pipe? or is there no negative effect? |
