Turbonator for RX8

What's up everybody, new to the club, just wondering if anybody has ever installed the so called "turbonator" on the RX8. Saw the add on the internet and it was featured in the popular car magazines. I'm interested so please reply.

Its a gimmick. Hasn't been shown to really do anything, although one member reported a 1 mpg increase in fuel economy. I'd say if you really want to do anything to the intake, get the RevI - for $289 you get a richer sound, better performance, and some say a 1-2mpg increase in fuel economy. Many more members have reported positively about this upgrade than any $20 Ebay hack.

Thumbs down turbonator...

whatever that you do...do not install a turbonator in your RX8, it will screw up your intake like it did to mines... I made the mistake of trying it, kinda figure that since the car was under warranty I would try it; I did and wound up having the car a week at the dealer replacing the intake because it got all screwed up somehow; it didn't cost me anything because the car still under warranty but they never knew that it was my fault for being stupid...save yourself grief and frustration...learn from others mistake...later brother...

Do not install a turbonator in any car, the so called performance gains and gas mileage gains have been debunked by car mags, local TV stations and others.

FWIW, I met a guy at our local Mazda club meet Wednesday night who says it's given his 2004 RX-8 GT 6MT a 2 mpg increase.

http://www.epa.gov

The Environmental Protection Agency tested a wide array of these so called "mileage" improvers to see if there was any validity to their claims.

In every situation there was no stastically significant increase in mileage and they can be considered snake oil for all needs and purposes.

Of course if any of you have access to your own dyno and emission control systems, and a host full of scientists to prove the product works, then by all means prove the EPA wrong. I'm sure a bunch of those PhD types probably set up the gasometer wrong...

Just remember that Magazines and shows will do anything to get $$$. It's how they survive. It was a wise choice for you to consult real owners and modifiers of this car before jumping on the ignorance waggon.

turbonator was one of the first things that I trid and when I installed it the car took off like a bat out of hell but within seconds it choked and took my intake with it, the car immediately choked down and check engine light came on and the car would not run above 25 miles an hour, luckily I pulled that stunt a few miles close to the house and it's all farm land that I can really open it if I want to; lost my car for a week while they replaced the intake. I still have the turbonator in the trunk of my car to remind me of the price of my stupidity... I'm a rotary freak and been messing with cars for the longest and I have tried many stunts but none like this one. Glad it's a new car and that was still under warranty...I have a saying and that is live and learn by experience or by stupidity...whichever comes first, but that does not mean that I'm going to go to the zoo and stick my head in a lions mouth... :D

Note the fine print on these type things: "...up to # HP or MPG increase!" Legally the term "up to" does in fact include the number "zero", so their claims aren't technically false advertising.
