Hmm, My tranny has this *BOV* sound for some reason

it happens whenever Im going faster than 30, as soon as I step on it, this *phhhhsssssSSsstttTT* sound happens and as soon as I shift and pull my feet away the sound is gone.

Is the Syncro or whatever is bad nooooo I dont want to bring this sucker to dealer cuz I have a feeling that they gonna say either "We cant find anything" or "Abuse, no warranty"

I just changed my clutch yesterday, the sound is still there, everything that I can think of has been replaced, front and rear tranny seal, pilot bearing and pilot bearing seal, throwout bearing, new grease, stock clutch and PP, replaced Flywheel insert, everything TQ back to factory spec by hand.

but the noise is still here !!!! so its gotta be something inside the tranny thats making the noise ...

 

how many miles? how is it up/down shifting? I had 7's all my life and they ALL had that whine noise.

 

Miles is about 39K.

Up down shifting is ok, its a little notcy sometimes when cold, but its fine after warm up.

The sound started probably about 1 K miles ago, first it was really Little, but now I get this *BOV whine* almost everytime I shift (when going faster than 30), and I know my car does not have a BOV !!!!

 

hmm, have you adjusted the clutch after your install for proper engagement/disengage?

 

hahahaa, i have this too. only when im shifting at WOT though.

some of my friends have even asked if my car was turbo'd. lol.

i didnt think it was the tranny.

 

Our trans is notorious for syncro whine. Some trans fluids will help reduce this whine, while others will not help or even increase it.

As I have stated before, I am not a big fan of the GL5 only or combo GL4/5 fluids as they have Extreme Pressure (EP) additives that are great for reducing gear wear, but are very hard on the syncros over time - this increased syncro wear will cause more whine over time.

I can tell you that mine used to whine quite a bit until I replaced the fluid with BG Syncroshift II - it has been in there about over 1.5 years and is still very quiet now.

I agree that the product is great; the only thing I can find wrong is that after a track day the tanny fluid goes to **** (but I guess thats vaild with anything).

 

the oil quoted should hold up better at the track than the lighter varieties

 

Thats the reason I picked it over MT90, but after 2 days at Putnam Park it felt like crap.

 

The official name is called "replaceable friction surface" :P

Some site sell & call them as "flywheel insert" for some reason.

I dont have the time to do the tranny fluid switch until Friday ... guess I gotta live with this *BOV* sound for a few more days.

well I don't run extensive track events so I'd have to rely on your input in this regard, but I'd imagine any fluid should be changed after two days of track use

my own experience is I can up/down shift at will, including high rpm/speed 1st gear downshifts

and once again generalities simply don't work here, the Mazda RX-8 manual trans service manual very specifically states that API Service Spec GL5 is acceptable for this trans

the real issue is the typical gear oil limited slip additive, which isn't in any of the Redline "NS" spec oils, Redline MT90, or RP Synchromax

and as a multi-weight oil the high end only is only reached at high temps, which is exactly what you want for film thickness. It's still only a 75W when cold.

 

Yeah like the HKS plugs he used around town I had to man I could not help it
But you know what, My MT will do the same on cold days but now that its getting hot out its not doing it so much. My friend said the same thing one day when we where talking. So I guess its all MT 8's trannys that do this cuz my AT never did this.

When I took out the plate and compare it to the new one ... Its just bad

and of course my ACT Modified Street disc has worn out too springs and everything still looks new, just the disc not good.

My left leg is already bigger than my right cuz of ACT ..... and I am so NOT used to stock clutch + Big clutch release now .... too light lol



My tranny, sometimes, might just stop whinninggggg, and then all of the sudden it whines again ~! *argh*

 

yeah ... it hurts my wallet too ...

Now back to stock clutch ... I go very easy on it ...

Well, Im gonna go easy on this one .... at least for the first couple hundred miles. my Original clutch lasted me like 20 something K miles so ... Im expecting the same for this one

NEED GL-4 80/90, 90, 75/90 HYPOID GEAR OIL ADVISE RECOMMENDATIONS:

so my '07 as of 2k miles went for a full royal purple treatment if i was to experiment with synthetics at all. ever since day one up til now of the fluid change, the synchros has been nowhere near perfect like factory. i changed both trans and diff 75/90 and 85/140 at the same time.

the royal purps has been nothing but notchy and chatters from first-to-second gear shifts. also in fif gear. and a hint of gear whine on cruise in 6th gear....
not a happy camper here. it only performs well when warm, but its unbearable for a street car that has to chance gear grinds on every morning start up drives.WTF!

so help me out. i'd like to possibly find straight 90 weight for the trans with a GL-4 grade... or whatever thatsgrat oil specific w/o any of that diff additive bullshi* in it.
no more synthetic experimenting for me...and the gear chatter stopped only to find out the royal purps burn up about 1/2 qt in the duration of 6-7k miles! i noticed this as i filled in "lucas oil stabilizer" to thicken that thin *** synthetic gear oil sucka up.

so is there any (hypoid???) trans specific 80/90 or straight 90 that i can find, and does valvoline carry straight 90 weight gear oil??? pepboys/kragen/autozone...which to go for conventional stuff but the best brands.
like i said, i'd like to see if valvoline has any gear oil available. i trust that brand, and i've searched everywhere from honda dealership to mazda to nissan with no luck. but was sent to a mom/pop shop that carries STA-LUBE 85/90 GL-4 specific which i bought just today to fill my dads 350Z. but its a crappy brand, which is ok for a slow driver like my pops in his 350z, but prefer a high quality conventional for me to at minimum match factory quality...

-any good conventional brands anyone can recommend here?
