Yeah, I want a functional washer fluid thingy... besides I could mount it pretty much anywhere in the engine bay, probably best if it has the hose at the bottom though, less restrictive... But I'm still going to try this, could be a fun project... And I have to break in my engine for a bit before I put the SOHN OMP on, being brand new and all... PS They said my engine shipped today so it will be in by the end of the week and they can start putting it back together...

 

Keep in mind if it is a reman, it is not brand new. The reuse parts used parts in the re-manufacturing process. Just to clarify because many think they are getting NEW motor when they are not.

Engine replacement handled under warranty entail installing a reman not a new engine I don't care what the dealer told you! Secondly you don't have to wait to "break in" the engine before installing the Sohn adapter.

Who told you that? There is no reason to not premix or run the SOHN during break-in. I suggest to read the threads linked in my sig and also read up and try to get a good understanding of the vehicle your purchased.

 

Before trying this, you might want to put the camelback in your oven set to say 275F for a while and see what happens ...

 

the oil in the bladder would not be from the oil pan, so it should be the ambient temp of the engine bay, and I gathered that info from reading about new engine, apparently I was wrong, although I'm here so I can learn, at least I'm trying ^_^ and if this doesn't work, well we will know, and if it does I can make a nice simple DIY version instead of a fancier one..

 

I'm not suggesting that 275F is the ambient temp of the engine bay (though even filled with oil, the temp of the outer surface of the plastic will be higher than the temp of the contained oil). I'm pointing out that soft plastic generally degrades faster in higher temps than hard plastic. Consider too, that in the usual location near the windshield washer tank, if you do have a leak there's a good chance you'll dump the oil on the hot exhaust with a resulting good chance of starting a fire. Maybe it'll be fine, maybe not, just sayin'.

it'll be in a steel tube, should be good, I may change up the tubing for something better, but thats about it

Just make sure I am understanding your saying the oil thats in the bladder is going to reside in a steel tube that will prevent it from leaking should the soft plastic bladder melt from the engine heat?

 

yeah, pretty much, the point of the bladder is to avoid sloshing as it won't fill with air like a solid container. Also allows me to build my own container for the bladder, which doesn't need to be leak proof, it's just there to hold it and look pretty.. not a conventional mod I wouldn't think but I like the idea and we'll see if it works and if theres any benefit to using a bladder even if it isn't huge..

 

So... any progress? I'm interested to see if this was an ok idea or a huge waste of time

as mentioned mazda has my car, although they have my engine now and it should be done this week
EDIT: Sorry this is taking so long, it's taken them about a month to do all the work on my car, but I should be able to conclude this thread shortly

ok they said my engine was on order from japan.. (*weird*) and they rebuilt my tranny... ALTHOUGH (*I love my dealership*), they installed my header back exhaust, CAI, and lightweight flywheel for free while they were at it ^_^ and they've always done quick and proper work on my car before so I don't mind them taking there time once..

really? wow... my stealership told me they dont do install any aftermarket parts

 

eh I kinda got a bit of a lemon as a used car, so they've been really good about it, plus they try to help me out because I'm in the infantry and the service manager has a lot of respect for my job
