ok thanks for the info. im just trying to be safe with this motor considering i just paid about 20k for the car lol but i think your right, im going to install the mazmart pump but hold off on a rad until the kits installed and i see what temps im runnin. do you people with the alky kit have problem with engine break up when spraying? i know ive always had that problem on my boosted RX7

Charles R. Hill 10-06-2008 10:44 AM

Radiators don't control engine temps.

13bturbofc 10-06-2008 03:09 PM

i know the thermostat does but.... well i dont think i need to explain to you lol

13bturbofc 10-06-2008 03:15 PM

this isnt really the right section but can anyone link me to where to find some nice guages that match the red lighting?

Rotr8 10-06-2008 05:05 PM

1 Attachment(s)
Ray(Charles R. Hill) can match up some Auotmeter Sort Comps, thats what comes with the RB kit and they nicely match the red interior, Im waiting on a Boost Vac gauge to be delivered that is from the Sport Comp series...
PM Ray he'll take care of ya...
hewres a pic after I instralled my RB gauges, its alittle too bright to see the red numbers on the gauges but you can see the rim....

13bturbofc 10-06-2008 09:03 PM

yeah i like the way those look but i want differnt guages then what comes with the RB kit. ill contact ray. who is he anyway?

Rotr8 10-06-2008 09:21 PM

hes the driving force behind BHR(Black Halo Racing) real good guy very highly recomended....
Ohh and on RBs site you can order the gauge panel without the gauges....

13bturbofc 10-06-2008 10:14 PM

another thing is those are mechanical guages right? id like full sweep electrical

jskup1 10-07-2008 05:13 AM

Here's what I have: http://www.autometer.com/cat_gaugeli...&opid=1&szid=2

13bturbofc 10-07-2008 07:12 AM

those are nice but they don't have a matching wide band and i have yet to see an intake temp gauge of any kind....weird

Bastage 10-07-2008 08:53 AM

As long as the ring bezels are similar it doesn't look too bad to have non-matching gauges. I have a total Frankenstein gauge setup. Autometer Sports Comp Digital Boost/Vac gauge, Nordskog intake air temp gauge, and AEM wideband, and it doesn't look bad at all. I'll take some pictures tonight.

There is a wideband guage in the Nexus line.

13bturbofc 10-07-2008 04:41 PM

is the intake air temp the same gauge that they list as just an air temp gauge on the nordskog site?

13bturbofc 10-07-2008 04:44 PM

cause the one i saw looks like its just a ambient air temp gauge

ssspeedfreak 10-07-2008 05:48 PM

My only question to you is why not take the BHR/MM turbo kit and coils with the Cobb AP and call it a day?

13bturbofc 10-07-2008 06:55 PM

ah been there done that...already have a 400+whp turbo rx7... and if i wanted to make that much power i would go with a turbo kit but im looking for a reliable 300 hp without the ton of components that come with installing a turbo. im trying to keep this thing a daily driver that passes inspection and smog. also i want to keep most of the factory components intact, no cutting, hacking, relocating. no removing bumper bars for intercoolers or cutting rad support for piping. plus everyone has a turbo car.. i like to have something unique. and if i ever wanna sell the car and buy a different 8 i could remove the pettit kit in no time and you wouldn't ever know it was there.

I own the Pettit s/c and lov it, but when you say keep most of the factory components intact, I think you should talk to some of us. There are several changes that need be made.

13bturbofc 10-08-2008 07:10 AM

yes i know but compared to a turbo kit id say its minimal

olddragger 10-08-2008 11:05 AM

i like a digital gauge for the wideband(i use innovate) and for the air charge temp(as i could not find one that was not digital)
my other gauges are Pro Sports electrical--270% sweep, full sweep on start up, lights match the oem ones and only about 50 bucks apiece. I cross tested them agaisnt auto meter mechanical for accuacy and they are right on.
I used auto meter dig air charge gauge(they call it ambient temp gauge) and it matches the innovate one and i mounted those 2 in my ashtray(wasnt hard at all) using the factory stuff already there. i can even still close the ashtray lid if i want! The pettit intake replacement has a bung on it so this can be mounted. My others are mounted on the Lotek centerpod
The water meth has no break up problems for me--it is a maf driven system that gradually increas's the amount being sprayed. You set it to what you want. I have ran a gallon through her within 10 miles before and no stumble. If you set it a full spray at idle it will stumble --but you dont want that anyway. 2 nozzles --one pre blower 1 after intercooler.

uh--sorry--but to earlier post--no smogs laws were i live.

13bturbofc 10-08-2008 01:41 PM

so you have an innovate intake charge temp and an autometer intake charge temp? im confused. so if i buy the auto meter ambient air temp guage i can screw the sensor that comes with it right into the pettit intake?

i didnt know they made a maf driven meth system, i have the cooling mist deluxe setup on my rx7 and its fully tunable but it runs off of boost pressure. what system do you have?

in pa any car after around 199? requires a sniffer or obd 2 testing to pass smog. you can get around this by getting an exempt sticker which requires you drive no more then 5k miles per year, in my rx7 i take the guage bezel out and crank the odometer back so i stay under 5k lol but you cant do this (well i cant) to a digital rx8 odometer

13bturbofc 10-08-2008 02:02 PM

so far im going with the autometer sport comp digital boost/vac , water temp and the autometer ES. wideband o2...still trying to find a matching intake air temp guage

olddragger 10-08-2008 08:17 PM

no i have the innovate wideband set up--the gauge that comes with it matches my charge air temp gauge.(autometer)
when attaching a wideband to this car make sure you have a uninterrupted power source(one that still has power when the car is being started)
if you will not be running a cat --i have a trick for ya.
olddragger

13bturbofc 10-08-2008 08:38 PM

i am gonna be running a cat but where is the best place to place the sensor on these cars? before the cat? do you have a part number for the autometer intake temp guage?

Phil's 8 10-09-2008 07:50 AM

I saw Cam and we sat in the shade and talked for a while (just like two older gentlemen will do). I understand that there are at least three forum members that have the Pettit kit that are not on the Pettit owners list. There are at least 4 more that have reserved a kit (will receive or be installed shortly). If your one of the new owners (or an older owner that slipped thru the cracks) PM or post your information so I can add you to the list.
