I was in retail for many years. It is a realistic attitude and by absolutely no means what so ever unreasonable.

bureau13 02-26-2004 08:43 AM

Well, if I am looking at two shops, and I walk in one and get a whiff of "Come in if you want, I don't give a *&^@, if you don't like what we say we don't want or need your business anyway," and I walk in the other and get that warm, fuzzy "customer first" sensation, which shop am I more likely to patronize?

(Answer: The one with the hottest secretary...oh stop it its a joke :D

Seriously, while every vendor has its share of detractors, I think you'll find far more people expressing their displeasure with SR's treatment of them than you will with Pettit, or KD Rotary, or Rotary Performance. While I can't vouch for the accuracy of those claims...my limited experiences have been positive as I stated....at the very least it seems that Ray hasn't exactly wowed a large number of people with his attitude. You may contrast that to Cam at Pettit, who usually goes out of his way to help people out, etc. I know both guys know their s***, and both make quality products that work...and yes, both guys charge too much :D ...but given the choice all things being equal I'd go to a place like Pettit because most of the people that go there end up feeling like they were treated well. I think if you took a poll that would not be the case with SR.

I think we've strayed off topic here...to try and reel it back in, I can't really see him faking a dyno sheet.

I'm still not dissuaded from SR by the above arguments...no offense to anyone here, but I'll trust in-person commentary over the internet anyday.

From my personal experience, I can only speak of RX7.com and KDR. I cannot say anything bad about any of them, as each were great to deal with. When I get my next rotary powered car, I will only send it to KDR for major work, regardless of where I am in the country.

Xyntax:

If this is true, then great! But you know what sucks? Change in power only comes in at 70mph+. That means, dialy driving and following speed limits would stay the same
I don't even have average knowledge on dynoes, so I may be wrong, but that power curve is what you'll get in every gear. You see the increase about a third of the way down (what you think is 70mph), which'd be about 3000rpm or less. Every time you hit 3000rpm in any gear you'll get the extra power. The mph scale on the dyno reflects the gear they had the car in at the time, maybe 4th gear. Think of the 120mph mark as about 9000rpm, and count down from there; 110 mph'd be about 8000rpm, 100 mph'd be about 7000rpm etc.

Somebody who knows about this stuff, please correct me if I'm wrong.

Red Devil 02-26-2004 11:46 AM

I had thought of the above also...a dyno pull should only be in one gear that's ratio is closest to 1:1, I believe. Therefore, according to SR's dyno sheet, it should be more drivable in stop and go traffic than before.

In my case, Ray did indeed put one in my ass and didn't think twice after he knew it was beyond the time I could do a charge back. I bought an upgraded set of "twins" from him for my 7. Supposedly larger compressors, new components, etc, etc fro the 2300.00 I sent, along with the money for the PFC and commander. I didn't get them installed quickly since mine were fine, just thought I was getting a like new set with some power to boot. One turbo had some shaft play, more than my stock unit had on the primary. So I cal Ray, oh, it's okay, you should measure it with 43 psi of oil in with the bearings to take some of the play out. I go along with what he says cause I trust him about it. I get them on the car, smokers from the start on the primary. Call him back and let him know, he says we haven't done those type twins in over a year. Uh no idoit I bought these from you about 6 months ago, 2 months to long to charge it back you moron. I ask what canwe do to make it right...well Ray's a great guy and cares about customer service..he's going to offer me a set of 99's at a great price. Thanks Ray, mind giving me a cigarette with that ass pounding you just gave me. I take the unit off and send them to BNR to have a look. I'll cut Ray some slack in that the turbos are more than likely outsourced and not done in house. Well guess what we found out about my upgraded twins.....only upgrade was the blades were clipped, not even larger wheels or machined out interiors. Not to mention the thrust angle was off by 15 degrees and eating the bearings faster than Ray could spend the 2300 bucks I sent on beer and hotdogs at the 1/4 track where people think he's god. The secondary turbo lock nut on the end of the shaft was not even on. Great job Ray, someone as knowledgable as you let these piles of crap ship out of your rotary guru shop and left me out to dry. Yeah, it was 2 years ago now and since then I've gotten bad new 99 twins from Jesse Lau cheaper than dipshit Ray was going to give a shaft, I mean deal on. In my case, atleast, Ray's a crapbag who isn't worth stopping on the side of the road to help when his redneck ass is broke down in the rain.
I hope he does read this.

Meeeeeeooooowwww!:D

smrx8 02-28-2004 10:53 AM

wow enough said tim ,i was going to order there new intake system ,iam having second thoughts

Tim Benton 03-01-2004 08:18 PM

his stuff might make the HP he posts, just be on the careful side when dealing with this assbag. If his intake is making more than Chuck's, ask why when the design looks similar. Same goes with exhaust and other things Ray's claiming HP numbers on. See what others are claiming (greddy, Chuck, Borla, etc) and ask alot of questions to Ray and if you feel like he's answered them to your satisfaction, buy it from Ray and do your own HP test and see if he's telling the truth.

In my soapbox above, I meant to say that Jesse Lau hooked me up with a brand new set (0 miles) on the 99 spec turbos..not bad new set like mis-typed.

Tim Benton.... man that was some shit you went through.

That being said... OH MY GOD...ROTFL

Tim Benton 12-25-2004 10:31 PM

just bumping it back up so people keep it in mind. Who do you trust? Ray claiming 14 rwhp or racing beat saying 3 to 4? My money's on racing beat. What would Jim gain by claiming his exhaust makes 10 less than a competitor? It's Christmas so I might have pulled over to help Ray if he was broken down on the side of the road...I said I MIGHT HAVE.
