It looks a LOT like that dyno graph has been edited.
Where is the dip when the intake tract changes over?

In general the curve looks way too smooth.

smrx8 02-09-2004 07:20 AM

hmmm i wonder if rx tuner will be making there on testing on pruducts that come? i know sports compact always does it they pick a car every month i believe and test the cliams companys are making .......canzoomer i wrote to you about buying stage 2 you never answer my email

RX8on19s 02-09-2004 09:52 PM

If you magnify the image several hundred times, you will see that the line was superimposed on the graph. Just my two cents....I think its fake.....

JASRX-8 02-09-2004 10:56 PM

wow, thats pathetic

Omicron 02-09-2004 11:04 PM

Yeah, I noticed that too.

Up Close look

Here's an up close look. As you can see, their is a difference in color. It may also be that the program they are using is cheap.

murix 02-09-2004 11:58 PM

I of course do not know the overall validity of the dyno and will not speak for the numbers, but a Dynojet has a feature called smoothing which looks to be enabled (look in the right hand top corner) and from what I can tell at level 5 which is the highest level of smoothing. You are correct in saying the dyno is modified, but it is modified by the software and based off a real curve.

There are two possibilities here:

"anti-aliasing" is a feature used in graphics programs to smooth jagged or rough edges.
It is used by graphics editing programs, such as in Photo Shop, Corel Photo Paint, etc.

Presence of that does not necessarily indicate proof of cheating, as they may have had a legitmate reason to edit, such as deleting unwanted text, or something.

Or it could be a sign of the "lossiness" created by image compression software, such as JPEG.

All I find dubious is that certain features which are quite characteristic of this engine, are not present in some parts of the curve.

I do not buy the results, but let's assume they are correct why is the non-stock curve cuts off earlier. The actual work output is represented by the area under the curve. The new curve area appears to be smaller than stock.......

That can be due to a very simple matter of when they launched on the dyno.

Same as why the earlier cut-off at the top. Simply put that is when the tester took his foot off the gas.

Curious, anybody out there use SR before? I never have, but have always heard good things.

Xyntax 02-10-2004 08:11 PM

If this is true, then great! But you know what sucks? Change in power only comes in at 70mph+. That means, dialy driving and following speed limits would stay the same ;)

se3pmaniac 02-16-2004 03:46 PM

Read the following thread and see if you would like deal with SR

Do a seach on the www.rx7club.com. There are plenty of people having bad experience with them.

Good luck!

sr parts seem expensive as well.
$489 for the stock rear spoiler

Ft Liquordale 02-25-2004 03:55 PM

Anyone have comments about the under-drive power pulleys? What could be so special?

BOOSTD 7 02-25-2004 05:18 PM

WTF is wrong with you guys? Abel Ibara could come on here posting dyno sheets of his RX-8 intake, and you'd all scream FAKE! Ray Lockhead and SR has been around a LONG, LONG time. They were running 9's in their RX-7 before most had any idea what imports were all about.

Geez ...

BOOSTD 7 02-25-2004 05:21 PM

Obviously somebody running this car needs to fake dyno sheets

I wouldn't trust Ray to feed my dog while I was out of town and trust him even less when money is involved.

I've bought one or two things from SR for my FD, and my personal dealings with him were quite satisfactory. Also, as BOOSTD7 has correctly pointed out, he has a long history of building and racing kick-ass RX7 drag cars.

That said, there have been a LOT of dissatisfied people on the RX7 forum who have had purchases that didn't go so well....so....who knows....

turboRX8renesis 02-25-2004 08:43 PM

I've bought a couple of parts and have had no problem with SR Motorsports. However, I questioned their dyno results for the 8 from the beginning. When I asked them how they got their dyno results, after seeing a picture of the 8 on a two-wheel drive dyno, they didn't reply. I asked how they were able to dyno the car on a two-wheel dyno when you have to use an AWD dyno in order to bypass the DSC and ABS fail-safe. The PCM has to sense the front wheels moving in order to distribute full power to the rear wheels.

rotarygod 02-25-2004 09:55 PM

Ray Locheed is no moron. He is smarter than most out there. I have bought several things from him. They always arrive quickly. He is always easy to get ahold of in an emergency. We just installed a brand new engine he built this last weekend in my friend Trixie's yellow 3rd gen RX-7. It was done great. The ports looked beautiful. We also installed the Power FC which he had tuned. The problem with this is that no 2 engines are alike. He always tunes on the rich side which pisses the RX-7 guys off because they expect to buy the fastest most perfectly tuned product for their car without having it tuned ON their car. Isn't going to happen. Yes there are alot of dissatisfied customers on the RX-7 forum. There are also people that hate Atkins rotary, Hurley, Rotary Performance, Pettit racing, Pineapple Racing, etc... You can't please everyone all the time and others you can't please at all no matter how hard you try.

He knows how to dyno that car. Yes it can be done on a 2 wheel dyno since several have done it. If one person gets 180 hp on a 2 wheel dyno and another person gets 184 hp on a 4 wheel dyno, where is the issue? When you show me someone who has done over 200 rwhp just solely based off the fact that they used an awd dyno, I'll believe that argument as factual rather than speculative. It isn't hard to trick the sensors. It is just much easier to do on a 4 wheel dyno.

Ray has nothing to prove to ANYONE here and he knows it. At least he is diginified to not bash anyone else for their ignorant comments against him. He just laughs those people off since they aren't worth the effort. He does look at this forum you know. If people don't want to deal with him than they probably aren't worth his time anyways. Service is a two way street and the customer isn't always right even though they may think so.

bureau13 02-26-2004 12:23 AM

Well, THAT attitude is a good way to not get customers.

PS: Yes, I realize that was rotarygod and not Ray...
