Spark Plug wires for RX8

Can anyone suggest good spark plug wires for the 8? I was thinking of nology?

What thinkness does the RX8 use - is it 8mm?

Thanks!

Broken them already?

:D

I don't really think there's any aftermarket wires out yet. I've always been a big fan of Magnecor wires - VERY well made, fit is fantastic, and they do the job right - get the maximum energy from the coil to the plug.

Nology wires are a gimmick, and they're horribly overpriced. I've seen 3rd gen RX-7's that actually *lost* horsepower going to Nology's from stock plug wires. I wouldn't waste my money. Not to mention you can't even see the plug wires!

Yeah, they are very difficult to reach, like everything else in the engine bay - Parking lights etc. My previous engine had 10.3 mm wires to replace the standard 8mm, which resulted in alittle more kick - although spark plugs had to be replaced alittle more frequently.

Thanks for the tip. I always thoough nology was a gimmic.

We are waiting for a good set of wires to hit the market. I'm sure it is just a matter of time and when we get our greasy lil hands on some we'll post it in the vendor section for you guys.

They are spark plugs - we were talking about spark plug wires :-)

there are the granatelli spark plug wires...but i dont think they are out for the RX8...
or you may have to make your own wires. i know people with older generation rx's that have done that too.

eh not necessarily a year bump it should do lol anyone got an update on a reliable set of spark plug wires to use?

just bought a used 2005 shinka with 70000 miles on it, a week after i took it off the lot it wont run or start at all. Gonna give it a well deserved tune-up and see if that helps.

Hey, welcome to the forums and congrats on the car.

You can find lots of information in the technical forums but my recommendation is Racing Beat wires.
Make sure you get new ignition coils which can be found in the forum vendor area.
Clean your MAF and ESS. Change your air filter.

Maybe take it back and kick their ass?

Kicking their ass is a must, but when i did they just kinda shrugged their shoulders and said sorry, now im stuck with fixing it myself, which i dont mind but it would have been nice to squeeze a free repair outta them.

I'v heard a lot of good things about the BHR ignition kit, but im poor college kid and 585 is a big dent in my pocket :sweatdrop

Benjamz 02-19-2011 02:29 AM

Do not use nology or ngk.

Nology is a waste of money for the RX8 and NGK's will give you misfires.

Stock wires or racing beat wires are best.

rotarynoob8 02-19-2011 08:17 AM

bump

ok so I replaced the spark plugs yesterday, realized i didnt have the lock to my lugs at the last minute so had to use the turning the wheel all the way to the right method. (Note to self: Find that darn lock)

I still havent gotten to the wires yet, just wanted to do the simplest thing first and see if it helped, the car now starts and idles, but the idle is reeeeallllyyy rough, and sounds like something is rattling, very metallic like from underneath the car. and its shooting a new code p0506.

any thoughts? Im going to go ahead and order some racing beat wires for it right now I think.

Mazurfer 02-19-2011 08:37 AM

Look in glovebox or in the trunk where the jack is for your lock.

P0506(idle control sys. Idle low)........... possible causes.

1) MAF
2) IAC
3) Intake Leak
4) Exhaust Restriction

I'm going with #4 since you hear rattling.....Usually this will be chunks of the honeycomb in the CAT bouncing around.
If I was you, I would pull the front of the CAT loose and off to the side and peer in with a flashlight and see. There are pics on this site of what it should look like.
Clean your MAF as well and check for any vacuum leaks.

Any power loss?
