Luckily Greddy and HKS have always used the better perforated core mufflers. The louvered cores, which you want to avoid like the plague, are the typical ricer mufflers which are so common. Not all of them are like this but a big majority are. Another common ricer feature to avoid is any muffler with a quieting insert that sticks in the end. Now there is a loud and very restictive muffler. These are easily found on eBay.

Yeah those kids were turds. They made fun of the rotary engine citing examples of famous drag racers with more power. I guess they've never heard of Abel Ibarra. They also mentioned friends who had faster cars. So what. There is always a faster car out there somewhere. They both backed down from the challenge though and I probably wouldn't have taken them seriously if they accepted anyways.

 

It seems the least is known about the B&B exhaust.

Can rotarygod or someone else please find some info about the B&B's muffler design?

It seems to have a BIG single muffler. Is that a good thing, rotarygod?

 

If it's a big single muffler then it is chambered. This isn't necessarily a bad thing. Go back to the beginning of the thread to read why. It seems that most systems manufactured in the U.S. are chambered and most overseas are straight through. There are a couple of exceptions to those though.

 

I just ordered my B&B Exhaust last week (should have it on this weekend). If anyone is interested i will post impressions and do some research as to the design and everything.

I'm considering the B&B (I don't believe the published HP gain and I just hope to God it doesn't decrease the HP) and the Racing Beat.

 

Remember the 19hp published gain is for the B&B with the race pipe (total cost around $900 depending on where you buy). Without the race pipe I believe the published number was +12rwhp.

I know another owner in the New England area who just ordered the Racing Beat exhaust. I'll see if I can get some impressions from him.

Oh my lord...HKS not loud enough for you. You really need some serious help.

Go around the state for some custom made. They should be loud. Borla should be loud.

If Japanese one, one shop told me Buddy Club is the loudest among HKS, Fuji, Blitz, Trust, and etc. they selling there.

 

Try the BB midpipe. I've heard it and it should be loud enough for you.

 

That person would be myself. I have the first Spintech system on an RX-8. The Spintechs on my 8 have 2.25" diameter outlets. This seemed to be a good size to keep backpressure down and gas velocity up (to improve scavenging at high revs).
I got Spintech to use a pair of Ractive resonated tips (that I supplied) with a 4" OD and 2.25" ID. I think they look pretty good in the stock openings.

They are only a little louder than stock and have a pretty nice tone IMO as well as those of a few other folks.

I make no HP claims for them, but the Service Advisor at my Mazda dealer commented that my 8 "feels stronger" than the other 8s he has driven. Take it or leave it.

If you want LOUD, Spintech makes smaller mufflers that will do that -- I chose to go with a little louder than stock, but not much. Oh. they don't resonate at a certain speed and get on your nerves.

They have some experience with Mazda rotaries, and say some interesting things about squeezing more performance out of the already well tweaked Renesis. For one thing, they say 8hp MAX benefit regardless of exhaust, or even NO exhaust.

Sounds like it is UNREALISTIC to expect substantial gains through simple mods. And with the development work that went into the Renesis, I'm not the least surprised.

My performance mod experience is really on the motorcycle side, but what I learned there is that dyno numbers can be "tweaked" to support unrealistic claims. I'd be inclined to believe RB's statement that gains beyond 8hp for exhaust are very unlikely (without other mods in conjunction - like forced induction).

Bob...if possible, do you think you could post pictures, and perhaps even a sound file of your exhaust? After going through that list, the Spintech sounds very intriguing to me, something I would like to pursue. However, I really don't want a huge increase in volume. That's just the sun lighting up the inside of the tip. It's not that clean now!
The tips are 2.25"diameter inside and have a perforated inner surface; so they're like small mufflers. I think they take some of the high-pitched noise out of the exhaust note. They don't restrict the flow, since they are the same ID as the pipes. They probably don't affect the loudness much either, but I think they look good.

 

the price for the RB exaust system is quite reasonable, i was hoping for somewhat at least 5hp gain tho. i dun care about sound, but i hate it when its TOO loud. dun mind no gain to considerable gain in sound, but 5HP+ , dun mind paying a little extra. what would ppl recommend? and i ask for your personal oppinion RotaryGod, even if its biased, i'll still take into consideration. i understand u said u are unsure of exact gains of the exaust systems currently available as there are no 3rd party tests. but i believe u have alot more knowledge than I in this area. hence i will respect and value your opinion and expertise.

anyone else with any recommendations would also be appreciated

 

My personal preferences are the Racing Beat and the Borla systems, in that order. I do like Spintech mufflers but I need to hear one on the RX-8. They have been unbearably loud on RX-7's but if they are nice on the 8 then they would be right at the top as well. I am not a fan of Greddy, HKS, or many others. Anything I post here will be purely heresay since I haven't personally tried every system so I am only going by what others have reported to me. Everyone has different personal preferences and from what we have seen from different cars here on the forum, every car responds to mods a little different.

The moment I see an 8 riced out I'm gonna sell mine.
Because its a damn discrace to turn such a beautiful machine into something that sound like a hoopty at 100mph when you are only going 5mph.
As like the rest of us I wold love to add on aftermarket parts to my car. Would ABSOLUTLY Love to.
But with respect to the heratage of the rotary I can only ask everyone to PLEASE do it in good taste!

As far as the exhaust I want something different than stock But Not loud! Something deep and throaty so when you take off at a red light you leave that riced out (POS) Civic shocked and awed, with a vortex of a sweet powerfelt sound.

i just put a tanabe cat back on my 8 and it sounds wonderful. not loud at all, and gives a nice gain in the power. cant say xactly how much. but i would recomend it. the price is very resonable too.

 

I really really want to have flames coming out of my exhausts. What's the best brand for doing that? or do they all do that?
