single tip vs. dual tip "on each side"

What are peoples thoughts on single tip vs. dual tip exhaust for the rx8?

The new r35, ferrari and lambo use dual tips for the exhaust.

I am wondering what would be more unique and sexy.

Right now I am leaning towards dual tips with carbon fiber mufflers in a v-style simular to the helix design.

Just curious as to what you guys think, also asking because the prototype is being made and I would like to put an exhaust into production that the comunity likes.

Ben

so there is no confusion this is in reference to the number of tips on each side.

dual tip examples (for each side) or quad tip total.

Dual FTW! IMO, single tip exhausts look wierd on a RX8, which is why I would never buy the HKS hi-power exhaust.

Dual, unless RX-8 has RE Amemiya Super Greddy body kit.

I love RE Amemiya Super Greddy 7 RE20B rear only, not the front though.

uh.... are you talking about single exhaust vs dual exhaust? OR are you talking about single exhaust OR dual exhaust vs single exhaust OR dual exhaust with dual vs single tips per exhaust pipe?

huge difference between the two, and I don't think it's clear.

^what he said

the new gtr is a dual exhaust with quad tips.

do you mean two pipes like stock, or one. or are you solely talking about exhaust tips (single, dual, quad)

this thread does not fail, it is very clear

single tip vs dual tip.... TIP TIP.... not single exhaust vs dual exhaust

i listed examples... the gtr has dual tips on each of its exhaust, so does the ferrari

also dont put down the thread, this is a legitimate question on peoples taste

since i am referencing tips per exhaust side, "quad tips" for dual exhaust, that would mean 8 exhaust tips ... hehehehe

changes made to the original post - Ben

changing the cat back should not make it an emissions issue, i really dont know who cares except for a dealership telling you that you blew your motor because you changed your mufflers.

horrible poll. If you mean quad tip (the standard way of describing it), say so.

Its not a bad thread, just people refernce things differently. When I look at a car, like the Maxima or R35, it does have dual exhaust but each exhaust has two tips. The RX8 has single tips on each side. That is why I said single tip vs dual tip. That is the correct way to discribe it. It is the correct way because I am talking about the "tips" and not the exhaust. I really dont see how it is confusing.

Anyways.. everyone go ahead and jump on the band wagon and bash away.

I personally like the dual tip on both sides. Only problem is you gotta find a buy a rear bumper to accommodate it.

So you're really asking about single tip per side vs dual tip per side?

What's the point? Once you split the flow into two tips a 2" OD tube on each side is way more than adequate for anything short of high boost FI. Most people would prefer a big tip over two small ones, 3.5" or 4" per side vs two 2" touching each other because that's all you'll fit unless you plan to make custom shrouds too. All you're doing is adding both cost and weight, even with the single large tip. That's why I didn't put 4" dolphins on my latest race exhaust. Same thing for the V-style configuration on the over-rated Helix exhaust. Those are a bunch of odd angles to build to. It only complicates the fabrication process, complication adds cost.

I didn't think this thread would get this complicated. I am only asking peoples tatse on looks. The point was looks. There is a greater "world market" to be considered. I am targeting other countires too.

Yes one big tip on each side is easier to make, but this was not about that, it was about looks. But coming from the muffler, the two tips will still help expell the flow well enough for most everybodys application. If you have a 500hp car, you really only want a simple pipe. But not everyone buys the rx8 for power, They buy it for the looks and handling.

I would like to ask people to keep an open mind and look at the bigger picture here. This thread was started for looks, I did not ask about performance.

As for the helix... uggh, I know.. I only bought it because my buddy made it, but after testing it... there is no way I want to sell something that takes away throttle response. I am going to make something similuar but this time I will make sure that it makes good numbers on the dyno.

As far as cost go, let me worry about that, when I bought the site... the connections for manufacturing and fabrication came along with it.

And people, please. Don't come on here and keep saying this thread sucks, surely you have better things to do or say. Have some tact.

Ben.

well, thats why i started this thread, i did not mean for it to be confusing at all, and i did not expect it to go the way it did. but while im waiting for some things to happen on my end, i would just like to know peoples taste.

im pretty much set on the carbon fiber mufflers though since they will be visible.

exhaust tips look great from the factory, if I end up getting an exhaust, it will look close to stock.

what i really like about the stock tips is that they are welded on stands to keep them cool and helps them not to melt the shrouds.

Less is more. Stock Single tip (per side).
